5 New WWE Tournament Ideas After The SmackDown World Cup

Currently, WWE is running the SmackDown World Cup as a tournament on Fox.

The tournament was invented as Fox also airs games of the FIFA World Cup in the USA.

The winner is scheduled to face WWE Intercontinental Champion GUNTHER in the future.

While the World Cup football tournament has been questioned for its morals this year, the newly formed WWE World Cup found great success so far.

It only seems logical to continue high-profile tournaments in the future to keep that trend of more unique match combinations going.

After the World Cup, WWE should introduce a variety of tournaments and perhaps also bring back some classic concepts to generate more hype for their shows.

Obviously King Of The Ring jumps to mind immediately, but what if we try some stakes for once? Here are some potential concepts WWE could make use of.

5. Tag Team World Cup

With Triple H now in charge of WWE’s creative department, a more prominent role for WWE’s tag team division should be plausible.

The Game is a huge fan of tag team wrestling and the current and longest reigning WWE Tag Team Champions, The Usos, are in desperate need of some challengers.

A tournament that runs over several weeks to crown new #1 contenders for the Tag Team Titles hasn’t been done in a while.

The first-ever WWE Tag Team Champions in SmackDown history were crowned with a tournament. It seems only fitting for the record champions to find their new foes this way.

4. Women’s World Cup

With a women’s version of the World Cup, it not just changes the gender, it also introduces some more intrigue.

While the World Championships and also the Tag Team Championships are both currently being unified, there are still two Women’s Championships on the main roster.

The tournament would not just have the fans wonder who the eventual winner could be, everyone would also be intrigued by who the eventual winner is going to pick to challenge.

Whether it is the Raw or SmackDown Women’s Champion, it would certainly serve for some incredible television.

3. ‘Wildcard’ Tournament

A ‘Wildcard’ Tournament for underrated and new talent might just be one of the easiest ways to fast-track a talent to superstardom.

Across all three brands, a weekly tournament could be held, with the winner being able to challenge for any championship in the company.

In addition, this would lead to fans tuning into Raw, NXT, and SmackDown to follow the entire tournament to see if their favorites advance.

The stakes are high and the predictability is very low. The perfect tournament to fresh up your weekly product.

2. Mixed Match Challenge

Oh yes! Bring back the Mixed Match Challenge. But this time on Raw and SmackDown!

While you could obviously bring back some fan-favorite teams like “Team Little Big”, you could also provide the audience with some combinations they don’t usually see.

Oftentimes the men’s and women’s divisions seem like two separate universes. With a new and improved Mixed Match Challenge, this could change.

Several factions also added female talents to their ranks. Imagine Rhea Ripley and Dominik Mysterio winning the tournament. Who could stop them?

1. Deadly Game

Obviously! The Deadly Game is the answer.

Survivor Series 1998 mostly featured matches from the tournament to crown a new WWF Champion.

To this day people talk about the genius execution of this event.

One night and everyone tried everything, whether within the rules or not, to become world champion.

One Monday Night Raw that is just a new Deadly Game, hyped for weeks in advance.

A night everyone would benefit from.
