Imagine a world where the final "forbidden door" is cracked open — a world where WWE and AEW come together to share talent.
A utopian dream, perhaps, but just think of the incredible potential for tag team combinations.
Some would reunite wrestlers with shared history, while others would create dream teams.
Here are five crossover tag teams we could hope to see.
5. Marina Shafir & Shayna Baszler

AEW’s Marina Shafir and WWE’s Shayna Baszler share a long history, first appearing together on the UFC’s reality show The Ultimate Fighter where, alongside coach Ronda Rousey and Jessamyn Duke, they formed the “Four Horsewomen.”
Both later signed with NXT, though while Baszler rose to main roster success, Shafir was eventually released.
Now, with an improved in-ring style and a reinvented persona, Shafir is involved in a top storyline in AEW, while Baszler could benefit from a much-needed push in WWE.
At this stage of their careers, reuniting the two – with their joint MMA-influenced offence – would create an entertaining and impactful team.

4. Rey Mysterio & Bandido

At the first All In show in 2018 – the event that served as the precursor to the birth of AEW – the main event featured a six-man tag between The Young Bucks and Kota Ibushi against Rey Fenix, Rey Mysterio, and Bandido.
While an excellent bout, it had its time cut considerably due to the show overrunning, though it still showcased notable chemistry between the legendary Rey Mysterio and then-rising star Bandido.
Now in 2025, Bandido stands as ROH World Champion, arguably at his athletic peak after defeating Chris Jericho at Dynasty, while Rey, despite his unfortunate groin injury that ruled him out of WWE WrestleMania, has still been performing at a high level.
Reuniting the pair would undoubtedly make for a luchador dream tag team.

3. Cody Rhodes & Kenny Omega

As members of The Elite, both Cody Rhodes and Kenny Omega were instrumental in the birth of AEW, helping to reshape the landscape of wrestling in the 21st century.
During their time in Bullet Club, they regularly teamed in trios and eight-man matches across Ring of Honor and New Japan Pro Wrestling, delivering several excellent bouts.
Intriguingly, they have never competed together as a straight tag team.
One can only hope for a future scenario where the dream of this elite pairing of former WWE and AEW World Champions finally becomes a reality.

2. Mercedes Moné & Bayley

Both as allies and enemies, AEW’s Mercedes Moné and WWE’s Bayley have demonstrated incredible chemistry.
Their classic singles bout at NXT Takeover Brooklyn in 2015 helped define and innovate a new era in North American women’s wrestling – and they also became the first women to hold the newly created WWE’s Women’s Tag Team Championship in 2019.
Things have since changed: while Moné is riding an incredible wave of momentum in AEW, Bayley was pulled from the WrestleMania card to make way for Becky Lynch’s return.
After Moné tweeted at Bayley, suggesting that she should give her a call following her Mania snub, could this dream crossover team become a reality?

1. Jon Moxley & Roman Reigns

Former members of The Shield, both Roman Reigns and Jon Moxley are now top stars in their respective companies.
While both were excellent performers when they last teamed in 2019, their in-ring work and personas have evolved and strengthened considerably.
Reigns’ palpable, commanding charisma that he captured after turning heel in WWE, paired with Moxley’s raw, unfiltered intensity in AEW, showcases just how far they’ve come since their Shield days.
Undeniable future Hall of Famers, a reunited team at some point would promise much more than simple Shield nostalgia.
