With Triple H having taken control over WWE’s creative in 2022, many match types arrived on the main roster.
For example, The Fight Pit and WarGames matches made their WWE main roster debut this year.
There are plenty of other match types that have not been done by WWE in years.
Looking towards 2023, here are five match types WWE could bring back come next year.
5. Dog Collar Match

In 2019 WWE attempted to bring back the Dog Collar Match in a feud between Roman Reigns and Baron Corbin.
However, in true Vince McMahon fashion, way too much emphasis was put on the term ‘dog’.
The actual premise of a dog collar match is that the competitors are unable to escape from each other as the dog chain pulls them back together over and over again.
The brutality that ensues during such a match is the true eye-catcher. It does not get much more intense than a dog collar match.
With AEW and ROH, two big promotions have already had big dog collar matches in recent times. WWE might follow suit next year.
WWE did bring the Dog Collar match to NXT UK in a bout between Wild Boar and Eddie Dennis earlier this year, which could serve as a trial run for a main roster outing.
4. Boiler Room Brawl

A legendary contest. Much like the dog collar fight, this match type is based on a high level of intensity.
Basically, no rules apply when two wrestlers are locked inside the steaming hot boiler room, trying to escape from each other.
The last Boiler Room Brawl happened in 1999, and with mysterious and intense characters like Karrion Kross, Bray Wyatt, and Dexter Lumis around, the return of the match might just around the corner.
3. Tables, Ladders, And Chairs

Shockingly there has been no main roster TLC match since 2020. Before that, TLC was an annual event.
Tables, Ladders, and Chairs could return in 2023. Not as a Premium Live Event, but to boost the evergrowing tag team division.
The Usos, The New Day, The Viking Raiders, Hit Row, Imperium, Alpha Academy, The Brawling Brutes, and many others fill up WWE’s tag team ranks.
Imagine all of these possible combinations. The TLC match should be on the top of the list when it comes to match type returns of 2023.
2. Championship Scramble

There has not been a true Championship Scramble match in WWE since 2008.
The match is basically a gauntlet match, where wrestlers obtain pinfalls and become interim champion.
Whoever is interim champion after the time limit runs out, is the official champion.
The recent Iron Survivor Challenge on NXT seemed like a test balloon on if a Scramble match would work in the 2020s.
We will see if WWE pulls the trigger on this match type. It would certainly be nice to see it back.
1. Three Stages Of Hell

Three Stages Of Hell matches are rare in WWE. The brutal nature of this match is the perfect way to cap off a rivalry.
It is a variant of a 2 out of 3 Falls match, in which each fall is decided in a different stipulation.
The toll that this takes on the performer’s bodies is unheard of. Violence is ensured when wrestlers collide in Three Stages Of Hell.
Let’s hope for a WWE rivalry in 2023 that can only be solved by the most brutal match type in WWE history.
