The Forbidden Door is on the Horizon.
It is fair to say that it has been a bumpy road for AEW and New Japan, plagued with injuries and working around the AAA/CMLL promotional rivalry that keeps wrestlers off the card.
Without talents like CM Punk, Bryan Danielson, Andrade, Penta Obscuro, and Tomohiro Ishii, the wrestling supershow certainly had to find a way to make up for that.
The question is what else might happen besides the already stacked card of 11 matches. What tricks do Tony Khan and Takami Ohbari have on their sleeves?
5. Kenny Omega Returns
Kenny Omega has been off AEW television since November 2021 to deal with injuries.
His pro wrestling career will forever be tied to his work with New Japan Pro Wrestling. Without his work in NJPW, we most likely would not have the Kenny Omega we know today.
Maybe this AEW x NJPW supershow is the perfect time to bring him back, and also maybe have that staredown with Kazuchika Okada everybody has been waiting for.
4. Los Ingobernables De Japon Invasion
One name from New Japan has been notably absent from Forbidden Door. One of their biggest stars. A former IWGP World Champion.
His name is Tetsuya Naito, leader of Los Ingobernables De Japon. What if Naito isn’t all too happy that he has been left off the show?
What if he instructed his stablemates, Shingo Takagi and Hiromu Takahashi, who both feature on the show, to leave that door open when they enter it?
It would not be too surprising if Naito, Sanada, and Bushi all enter the Forbidden Door to make a statement.
3. Jonathan Gresham Brings Pure Wrestling To The Big Stage
Ever since Tony Khan bought Ring of Honor Wrestling we have seen the championships of ROH on AEW programming.
All except for one; the ROH World Championship, held by Jonathan Gresham.
Gresham is a highly entertaining performer that decided to conquer the wrestling world while he is not present on Tony Khan’s wrestling circus.
For example, Gresham won the PROGRESS World Championship in the United Kingdom and the prestigious wXw 16 Carat Gold Tournament in Germany this year.
Gresham would certainly make an impact if he chooses to arrive at Forbidden Door.
2. Another Match Will Be Announced
This show has eleven matches. That is including the pre-show. Eleven matches.
It is going to be a long night for sure. But still, with so many names missing off the card, and there certainly being stories to tell, AEW and NJPW just might have another special match ready.
Maybe it is going to be another multi-person match or another dream match. Certainly, there are many names that would love to be on the card.
1. The Swiss Superman Is The Best Technical Wrestler In The World
This is the big question for Sunday. Who is going to be the man replacing Bryan Danielson in the match against Zack Sabre Jr.
According to Bryan Danielson, the best technical wrestler in the world is going to replace him.
Some speculated it might be Jonathan Gresham, others even speculated about Johnny Gargano.
But the most likely name that is thrown around is Claudio Castagnoli, the former Cesaro in WWE.
The Swiss Superman would certainly give us a spectacular match against ZSJ.
