AEW WrestleDream 2025 takes place this Saturday, October 18.

There are few safer bets in all of pro wrestling than the show delivering multiple in-ring bangers.

The question, however, is whether we’ll see any major storyline developments – could any AEW stars turn heel and betray their current allies?

Here are five potential heel turns we could see at WrestleDream.

5. Hikaru Shida

AEW stars Hikaru Shida

Former AEW Women’s World Champion Hikaru Shida has not appeared in AEW since last November, with the 37-year-old recently starring in a theater production in her native Japan.

However, in a recent livestream, she confirmed that she has re-signed with AEW.

As a result, fans can expect to see her return soon – perhaps as early as WrestleDream.

Shida has been a babyface throughout her AEW run, but could we see her return during Toni Storm and Kris Statlander’s Women’s World Title match, turning heel and costing Storm the chance to reclaim her championship?

4. Swerve Strickland

Swerve Strickland has not wrestled since AEW’s Forbidden Door pay-per-view in August, as he’s been dealing with a knee injury, but could we see him make his return at WrestleDream?

The main event of WrestleDream sees Hangman Page defending the AEW World Championship against Samoa Joe.

While Swerve and Hangman appeared to have finally put their differences aside – with Swerve helping Hangman secure the win at  All in – his return could reignite their blood feud, possibly with him turning heel once again.

Their first one-on-one encounter, which kicked off their rivalry, took place at the inaugural WrestleDream in 2023, making this the most appropriate stage for the next chapter in their forever feud.

3. Samoa Joe

On the subject of the main event between Hangman Page and Samoa Joe, there’s a real possibility we could see a heel turn unfold.

Both men enter the match as babyfaces, and the build has featured fiery promos from each – both coming across as the proverbial badass babyface.

It seems unlikely that Hangman, as arguably the biggest and most popular babyface in the company, will turn.

However, it can’t be ruled out that Joe might rediscover his dark side and resort to heel tactics in an effort to reclaim the AEW World Championship.

2. Alex Windsor

Since arriving in AEW, Alex Windsor has been aligned with “Timeless” Toni Storm as her tag team partner.

At WrestleDream, Storm faces Kris Statlander in an attempt to reclaim the AEW Women’s World Championship.

It’s worth questioning whether AEW will put the title straight back on Storm – and if not, she’ll need a new opponent and storyline coming out of the event.

That opponent could very well be Windsor, with a possible heel turn on her partner costing Storm the championship and igniting a feud between the two.

1. Kris Statlander

It would appear too early to take the AEW Women’s World Championship off Kris Statlander and put it back on Toni Storm.

However, with Storm still positioned as the top babyface in the women’s division – and having already lost cleanly to Statlander at the last pay-per-view – it seems unlikely AEW would book her to lose cleanly again.

So how do they resolve this booking quandary?

We could see Statlander herself turn heel, cheating to defeat Storm – an act that would see their rivalry continue.
