There is arguably nothing more important in all of professional wrestling than the main event of WrestleMania.

For many wrestlers, it represents the absolute peak of their careers.

For fans, these are often the matches that are remembered most vividly – bouts that are etched in memory forever.

Here are five potential future matches we could see in the main event of WWE’s flagship event.

5. The Rock vs. Roman Reigns

Few matches have been discussed, speculated on, and anticipated more than a WrestleMania clash between Roman Reigns and The Rock.

It was a match that The Rock himself reportedly pushed for over several years, and one that came closest to happening at WrestleMania 40, before plans shifted when fans demanded Cody Rhodes be in the main event to “finish the story” – which had been the original plan before Rock came in and attempted to upend it.

At 53, time is seemingly running out if The Rock still intends to return to the ring for this bout.

Arguably, it remains the biggest WrestleMania main event WWE could book – but will we ever actually see it happen?

4. Cody Rhodes vs. Roman Reigns

Roman Reigns’ career may be winding down, yet there remain several potential WrestleMania main event bouts still on the table.

One of the most compelling is a trilogy bout against Cody Rhodes.

The pair have already met twice in the main event of WrestleMania, both times with Reigns positioned as the heel and Rhodes as the babyface – but could we now see those roles reversed?

Reigns never received his rematch for the Undisputed WWE Championship he lost to Rhodes at WrestleMania 40 – perhaps we could see that third and final match for the title take place at WrestleMania 42.

3. Roman Reigns vs. Bron Breakker

At this point, few would doubt the belief that WWE has in Bron Breakker – he is clearly the company’s next chosen one, the future star of WrestleMania.

His certainty in being a WrestleMania headliner may not be in doubt, but the question is: who does he headline his first one with?

Recent WWE programming suggests seeds may have been planted. At Clash in Paris, it was Breakker who put Roman Reigns out of action with multiple spears, after Reigns had defeated Bronson Reed.

Whether it happens this year or not, a clash between Roman Reigns – the top star of the current generation – and Bron Breakker – the chosen star of the next – feels inevitable.

2. Bron Breakker vs. Seth Rollins

While it seems certain that Bron Breakker will meet Roman Reigns in the main event of WrestleMania, another future main event feels inevitable against current stablemate Seth Rollins.

There are already subtle storyline hints that Breakker may not appreciate playing second fiddle to Rollins within The Vision faction, and it’s clear those hints will eventually erupt into open friction between the pair before the inevitable breakdown of their relationship.

Splitting from the faction would likely see Breakker’s ascension to top babyface star.

A WWE WrestleMania main event between the pair appears all but guaranteed – the question is how long The Vision holds together, and which year’s WrestleMania will it headline?

1. Rhea Ripley vs. Stephanie Vaquer

Rhea Ripley is the top women’s star in WWE – that fact is in little doubt.

However, despite being in arguably the best in-ring bouts at two of the last three WrestleManias – at 39 against Charlotte Flair and at 41 in a three-way with IYO SKY and Bianca Belair – she has never main-evented the show.

Given her level of stardom, it seems inevitable that she will soon headline one of the two nights at WrestleMania, but the question remains: who will be her opponent?

Few stars have exploded as quickly or connected with the WWE fanbase as Stephanie Vaquer, who has demonstrated incredible in-ring skill and palpable babyface charisma, making her the ideal potential candidate for Ripley’s first WrestleMania main event.
