5 Future WWE Plans For Joe Hendry

WWE CCO Triple H and Joe Hendry

On a week filled with very buzz-worthy WWE news, the NXT debut of Joe Hendry has stood tall as a major success.

Despite never before featuring on a stage as large as WWE in his 11 year career, Hendry’s viral success aided by his unlikely crossover to mainstream chart music, has seen him become a favorite amongst fans the world over.

The pop he received from the crowd inside the WWE PC told the full story, and that combined with the massive social media numbers his debut has been pulling in is sure to lead to more WWE plans to come for the Scottish star.

But what will those plans be exactly? Let’s run through some potential options.

5. Challenging Trick Williams For The NXT Championship

It seems pretty clear that Hendry is only scratching the surface on WWE NXT.

Given the numbers that his debut has pulled in one could imagine they’d want him back through the curtain again at the first available opportunity.

And when they do, you’d think that the temptation could be there to thrust Hendry into the biggest spot available – the NXT Championship and its holder Trick Williams.

As seen with Jordynne Grace at Battleground, Shawn Michaels is not afraid to put a TNA talent in as a challenger for a WWE NXT championship, so it’s certainly a possibility.

At present the number one contender for Trick Williams at Battleground is technically Je’Von Evans, however, it seems like a four-way with Ethan Page and Shawn Spears may be on the cards instead.

Given there’s already a multi-man situation there, it can’t harm throwing Hendry into the mix too right? Well, even if it doesn’t come to be, at some point you’d think Hendry could be challenging for the top prize on Tuesday nights.

4. Shows Up On WWE Raw & SmackDown

For a small venue like the WWE Performance Center, it sure did get loud when ‘I Believe in Joe Hendry’ hit the speakers.

But the question I think many fans may have afterwards is whether that reaction would be the same if he showed up on WWE main roster programming.

In a clip uploaded to WWE’s socials afterwards Hendry said to Shawn Michaels that he can show up on any show, suggesting that NXT may not be the only brand Hendry could appear.

After all, all it takes is someone to say his name…

3. Leads A Hostile TNA Invasion Of WWE NXT

As mentioned, following his rapid elimination from the WWE NXT battle royal Hendry would immediately storm to the back and confront Shawn Michaels, something that seemed to lay the groundwork for more WWE appearances to come.

Hendry is hardly the most liked individual from a kayfabe standpoint in the TNA locker room,  however, I’m sure he could band together enough allies in the company to make a bigger splash on NXT.

A full-scale TNA invasion on NXT would be a great way to cap off the relationship between the two brands, and would be mutually beneficial in drawing even greater interest.

WWE have only scratched the surface in terms of the talent on offer on the TNA roster, there are truly so many possible crossovers and there’s no better way to showcase them than with a hostile take-over.

2. Drew McIntyre Feud

TNA's Joe Hendry and WWE's DREW MCINTYRE

While this could be mistaken as simply throwing two stars together due to their shared nationality, Joe Hendry and Drew McIntyre have enough history as rivals where its worth revisiting in WWE – should Hendry stick around.

Following his WWE release in 2014 McIntyre returned to the independent scene and his roots in Glasgow’s Insane Championship Wrestling, around the same time that Hendry was making his name in the business.

While the two men would only square off once in the promotion, they would find themselves become better acquainted in WCPW, where they met several times for the promotion’s world title.

Despite the two men recently exchanging kind words in respective interviews, it’d be nice to see them stand across from one another once again. Although that may have to wait until McIntyre finds a way to rid himself of CM Punk first.

1. Joins Drew McIntyre Faction

WWE's DREW MCINTYRE & Gallus

While many theorised that it could potentially happen at WWE Clash at the Castle 2024, it still seems possible that Drew McIntyre could end up with his own faction at some point.

NXT’s Gallus would be the obvious contenders to join should this come to fruition, with Joe Coffey’s recent social media activity teasing a future allegiance with McIntyre.

While that would probably be about enough for a successful unit, what if they were also joined by TNA’s Joe Hendry?

As mentioned Hendry has himself a fair amount of history with McIntyre, but he has even more with each member of Gallus – primarily in ICW.

While Hendry’s current character admittedly seems a little bit too opposed to McIntyre and Gallus’ for it to make sense, it’s certainly not too outlandish to be beyond possibility.

Bottom line is, if CM Punk is that intent on ruining every opportunity McIntyre gets at winning back his World Heavyweight Championship he’s likely going to need a helping hand.

Gallus and Hendry could be just that, however, it really depends just how much WWE can use Hendry given his TNA contractual status – perhaps this one may be best waiting until he becomes available to sign permanently.
