The August 1 edition of SmackDown airs one day before the first-ever two-night WWE SummerSlam Premium Live Event.
As a result, it’s likely to be a noteworthy episode filled with final teases for the big shows.
While the full line-up is yet to be announced, we can expect last-minute additions and changes.
Below are five changes to WWE SmackDown before SummerSlam 2025.
5. Cody Rhodes & John Cena Final Showdown

Night Two of SummerSlam is set to be headlined by John Cena and Cody Rhodes in a Street Fight for the Undisputed WWE Championship.
While there is a lot of anticipation for other matches across the weekend, Cena vs. Rhodes is the biggest match of the entire two-night event.
As a result, it’s likely we’ll see a final confrontation between the two on the go-home SmackDown.
The question is: will it turn physical just 24 hours before their clash at MetLife Stadium?

4. Ron Killings Aids Damian Priest

Ron Killings and Damian Priest have shared a long-running history across WWE programming.
They’ve once again become informally aligned following Killings’ recent character shift after returning to the company.
In a recent interview with The Wrestling Classic, Killings teased the idea of a formal alliance with Priest.
With both feuding with Aleister Black, Killings could aid Priest in some form on Smackdown as Priest battles Black

3. LWO Answer Open Challenge

SmackDown team Los Garza won the AAA Tag Team Titles by defeating Octagón Jr. and Laredo Kid at AAA’s Verano de Escándalo event on 11 July.
For their first title defence, they’ve issued an open challenge for the 1 August edition of SmackDown.
While their opponents remain yet unknown, signs point to the LWO team of Cruz Del Toro and Joaquin Wilde who have returned to WWE TV, appearing on Raw in recent weeks.
With their shared lucha libre heritage, could the LWO answer the challenge?

2. Tag Title Opponents To Face Off In Singles Action On SmackDown

Alexa Bliss and Charlotte Flair’s unlikely “frenemies” tag team has quickly caught on with WWE’s fanbase.
On Night One of SummerSlam, they’ll challenge Judgment Day’s Raquel Rodriguez and Roxanne Perez for the WWE Women’s Tag Team Titles.
In recent weeks, the teams have split singles victories — Perez pinned Bliss, while Flair defeated Rodriguez on SmackDown.
Could the go-home show see the roles reversed, with Flair taking on Perez and Bliss facing Rodriguez?

1. Drew McIntyre Appears

Drew McIntyre took to social media late last week to announce he was stuck in the UK due to passport issues.
This cast legitimate doubt on the celebrity tag team match pitting him and Logan Paul against Randy Orton and Jelly Roll on Night One of WWE SummerSlam.
However, McIntyre has since confirmed the issue is resolved, again posting on social media.
As a result, we could see him appear in a go-home angle alongside Paul, squaring off against Orton and Jelly Roll.
