10 Matt Riddle Matches We Want To See On The WWE Main Roster

Matt Riddle made his NXT debut at Takeover: Brooklyn IV in the patented NXT way – sitting in the crowd. Thereafter, he went on to be a big deal on the black and gold brand, having feuds with Kassius Ohno, Velveteen Dream and Killian Dain to name a few.

He also recently captured the NXT Tag Team Championship in a team with Pete Dunne. However, due to the travel bans around the world, Dunne couldn’t fight alongside his partner and Riddle started a storyline with Timothy Thatcher instead.

Thatcher cost Riddle the titles by walking out on him, leaving Imperium to pick up the scraps. This lead to a cage fight on the latest edition of NXT, which saw Riddle suffer his final loss on the brand.

Now the ‘Original Bro’ is getting elevated to the main roster, more specifically, SmackDown. Kurt Angle announced his debut which could hint at big things being in store for Riddle’s career.

Having Riddle on the blue brand will certainly freshen up the roster and offer new rivalries to start. Here are 10 Matt Riddle matches we want to see on the WWE main roster.

1. Goldberg

Let’s jump straight into the deep end…

There is no doubt that if you are more than the average wrestling fan you would have heard about the personal real-life feud between Matt Riddle and Bill Goldberg.

Riddle has been calling him out since his botch-filled match with The Undertaker at Super ShowDown last year, stating that Goldberg is not entertaining, is a bad-wrestler and is too old for the sport.

Goldberg has responded to interviews enquiring about Riddle stating he is “annoying and won’t go away”.

So, seeing as they are both technically on the same brand now, Matt Riddle could begin a rivalry with Goldberg as early as live attendance returning.

This is a match we want to see, mainly due to the real-life tension which would definitely play a factor in this kayfabe world.

2. Brock Lesnar

Riddle does seem to rile up the part-time talent backstage, as another personal rivalry is one with the ‘Beast Incarnate’ Brock Lesnar.

Riddle has been calling out the former WWE Champion for months asking for a match. It makes sense, after all, Riddle and Lesnar both share an MMA background. Riddle wants to show how legit he is. However, Lesnar also finds him very annoying, even going as far as to tell him a match between the two will never happen.

Lesnar may be speaking the truth and a match may never be on the cards. However, the bout does scream “Money!” and it is nice to dream that these two will clash inside the ring one day.

3. Sheamus

Sheamus is currently involved in a feud with Jeff Hardy, but on the latest edition of Smackdown, he mentioned Matt Riddle’s name in an interview before facing Daniel Bryan in the main event.

This could be foreshadowing his next feud with Matt Riddle. Sheamus hasn’t been an uncommon warrior for the upcoming talent to challenge before moving onto other matters. A match with Riddle would definitely be fun with a whole load of knee explosions to the face!

This is one that could definitely happen in the coming months.

4. Daniel Bryan

This match is mouth-watering to think about!

Matt Riddle and Daniel Bryan are both technician wrestlers, they can both hit a submission out of nowhere and they are both very likeable babyfaces.

This match could be considered a ‘dream match’ encounter but it seems closer to reality than ever before.

5. Cesaro

Cesaro proved that his in-ring prowess is mesmerising in his match with ‘Shorty G’ on last Friday’s SmackDown. His match with Matt Riddle would be a spectacular showing of athleticism and strength.

Give both stars the time and the place, and this bout would surely blow the roof down!

6. ‘Shorty G’ Chad Gable

Chad Gable has been predicted as a potential SmackDown hacker for some time but a return to the blue brand this past Friday may have squashed those theories.

At least we can see the in-ring adrenaline from ‘Shorty G’ once more, and what better way to showcase this than a match with Matt Riddle?

Please get these men in a ring as soon as you can, WWE!

7. Shinsuke Nakamura

Shinsuke Nakamura has been quite meaningless on SmackDown. He has been a lackie for Sami Zayn and King Corbin, and now looks to be pointlessly thrown into feuds. We want more for Shinsuke Nakamura.

More as in a match with Matt Riddle. The ‘King of Strong-Style’ vs The ‘King of Bros’ – only one man can prevail.

Both men are notable for their hard-hitting, action-packed matches which means a match against each other would be astounding.

8. Aleister Black

With Aleister Black on Raw and Matt Riddle on SmackDown, this match may not happen for while, but it is a dream match and is getting closer to actually becoming a thing.

Also, there is the brand-to-brand invitational which could grant the possibility of this match-up. If they want to use this updated form of the wildcard rule successfully then giving us this match is it.

9. AJ Styles

I’m sure if I asked anyone to pick one match they would want to see Matt Riddle have on SmackDown they would nearly all answer AJ Styles.

Styles is one of the best professional wrestlers of today’s era and could put on a five-star classic wrestling a mannequin, nevermind another athlete.

This match would be incredible from start to finish and I’m sure with Styles heading into the final of the Intercontinental Title tournament and possibly winning the strap, he could be defending against Riddle in the near future.

If WWE needs to give a match the headline “Greatest Wrestling Match Ever” then this is the one.

10. “The Fiend” Bray Wyatt

Being on the same brand as Bray Wyatt’s spooky alter-ego definitely means we can see the ‘Original Bro’ clash with The Fiend at some point.

Both are great storytellers and I’m sure Riddle answering ‘Bro’ to everything Wyatt says would make for quite the interesting story-arch.

Also, Wyatt having a rivalry with Goldberg and Riddle’s heated rivalry with the former Universal Champion could assist the drama of this feud.

It is easy to see that there are a lot of potential amazing feuds for Matt Riddle to have once he makes his official debut on the main roster. WWE has quite the reputation of screwing with call-ups but this one writes itself. Let’s hope for a lustrous career for Matt Riddle on SmackDown.

I'm 18 years old and quite the nerd when it comes to WWE, Marvel and gaming. My main ambition in life is to travel the world.
