While fans continue to watch and wait for the potential that Chris Jericho could return to WWE, there could be a new big feud on the horizon.
With many WWE fans still hopeful that perhaps Chris Jericho will make his in-ring return to the company in 2026, perhaps the legendary star is waiting for WrestleMania 42.
Here are five potential WWE WrestleMania 42 opponents that could emerge for Chris Jericho.
5. Randy Orton
A potential rival for a returning Chris Jericho might end up being another storied legend in Randy Orton.
With Orton lacking a path forward to WrestleMania 42 at the moment, it could be that tangling with old rival Chris Jericho is the perfect solution for both.
While the showdown could definitely have a clear heel and face, it might be even more enjoyable for fans if the exact motivations of each man remain murky until the event.
With the ability for either future WWE Hall of Famer to turn heel in order to create a dramatic moment, it could be both that end up turning to the dark side and possibly uniting in the end.

4. Cody Rhodes
In the event the plan for Cody Rhodes at WrestleMania 42 isn’t a title bout, there would certainly seem to be something that could still capture him a ton of attention in Las Vegas.
Potentially taking on old AEW rival Chris Jericho in WWE, there could be a brand new chapter that evolves from the two men crossing paths again.
While Rhodes returned to WWE, Jericho remained in AEW and waded through a reportedly tumultuous environment – potentially creating some on-screen hostility.
With Jericho able to serve as an intriguing foil for Rhodes, he could dissect him from a psychological standpoint that few others from the current WWE roster could.

3. Sami Zayn
One WWE fan favorite without a clear path forward for WrestleMania 42 that could be in need of a sparring partner is Sami Zayn.
Definitely able to play an underdog to Jericho’s bombastic over the top character, there could be a fascinating indictment of AEW’s challenger brand identity.
With Sami Zayn able to capture the support of audiences who love technical, classic professional wrestling while going up against the more Sports Entertainment oriented Jericho, WWE could effectively take over the tribalism discussion to monetize both sides to their own benefit.
Potentially even going to war over a newly introduced WWE Canadian Championship, there could be a really fun storyline between the pair for Las Vegas.

2. Ricky Saints & Ethan Page
In what could be a fascinating case of heel on heel violence, a pair of former AEW stars from NXT could take it upon themselves to address Chris Jericho upon his return to WWE.
With both able to completely retcon storylines from behind the scenes – likely with a seedling of truth but certainly grown to a more serious conflict – there could be a legitimate bone to pick with Jericho from Ricky Saints and Ethan Page.
Able to confront him as a veteran who stole opportunities for TV time in AEW now attempting to grovel his way back into the hearts of the WWE fanbase, the trio could end up having a legendary feud.
Possibly coming together in the end to form a new super alliance on the main roster, setting up a heated rivalry for WrestleMania 42 could be a solid first chapter.

1. GUNTHER
With GUNTHER gaining a reputation already as a career killer in WWE, it could be that a swerve at WrestleMania 42 is the perfect next beat in his story.
After successfully besting Goldberg, John Cena and AJ Styles one after another, he could certainly end up being in a showdown with another legend for WrestleMania 42.
Potentially having Chris Jericho return to have a program with GUNTHER, it would continue to remain a mystery until the very last moment if Jericho would actually lose in his first WrestleMania match since WrestleMania 33.
Potentially evading a loss to GUNTHER and thereby continuing his run in WWE, there could be an important moment in GUNTHER’s growing legacy.
