WWE stars to retire from in-ring competition: Which veteran names could hang up their boots in 2027?

In the span of just 13 months, four multi-time world champions: Goldberg, John Cena, AJ Styles and Brock Lesnar all retired from WWE in-ring competition.

For the time being, it seems as if there are no immediate plans for any more veterans to bow out and join this list of retired stars, however, 2027 could potentially see more legendary names wrestle their last match.

Here are three WWE acts that could potentially retire in 2027.

The Bella Twins

Wrestling retirements famously have to be taken with a grain of salt, as much like other physical sports such as boxing; there have been countless examples over the years of wrestlers walking away from the ring, only to return at a later date.

Both Nikki & Brie Bella initially announced their in-ring retirements in 2019 – something that stuck until both made one-off appearances in the 2022 women’s Royal Rumble match. Three years on from that, Nikki returned on a full-time basis to WWE, with Brie then following suit at the 2026 Royal Rumble.

The Bella Twins have had to endure several frustrating injury setbacks since reuniting in WWE in January, and it sadly may not have a very long shelf life in general, as during an episode of The Nikki & Brie Show back in July, Nikki Bella revealed her plans to retire from wrestling at the end of 2027.

It’s unclear whether Brie is also planning to step away from the ring at the same time, or whether these plans will change before we get to the end of next year. But it feels like 2027 will be the last year we see The Bella Twins together competing inside a WWE ring.

Rey Mysterio

Despite now having a nice office role in WWE as General Manager of AAA, Rey Mysterio has not showed any signs of slowing down, aged 51.

In fact, just last week Mysterio took on ‘The Nigerian Giant’ Omos in the main event of TripleMania 34 Night One, a show that ended with the Hall of Famer being choke slammed through a table, whilst being strapped to a stretcher.

Rey is clearly capable of taking punishment, as well as putting on classic matches on a weekly basis – as his August 17 Intercontinental Title match against Chad Gable showed – however, one would expect that the end of his career is surely approaching in the next few years.

While GUNTHER has become known as ‘The Career Killer’ many fans expect, and wish to see Rey bow out of WWE with a final match against his son Dominik Mysterio – something that could happen at WrestleMania 43, or perhaps even next year’s TripleMania 35 event.

Asuka

After competing against IYO SKY at WWE Backlash on May 9, Asuka said an emotional goodbye to her compatriot the following night on Raw.

We haven’t seen Asuka on WWE programming since then, and in an update posted to her YouTube channel afterwards, Asuka explained that her WWE appearances would be “rare” going forward and she was stepping away due to a personal matter that she had discussed with WWE.

With Asuka never out right retiring, we could potentially see her return for one last run in 2027 where she could receive the sendoff she truly deserves.
