WWE Stars Removed From WrestleMania 42

With the road to WWE WrestleMania 42 well underway, there have already been some big changes in plans that could keep a few stars off the card.

From injuries and changes to storylines for other reasons, there are a number of notable names that are still left out in the cold regarding what, if anything, is planned for them at WrestleMania.

Here are seven WWE stars that appear to have been removed from WrestleMania 42 plans.

7. GUNTHER

One intriguing name that could be out of luck for a match at WrestleMania 42 looks to be GUNTHER.

While The Ring General certainly has an impressive string of recent appearances including retiring both John Cena and AJ Styles, he has yet to pick up with a new feud since.

While he was seemingly set to go up against Rey Mysterio off the back of his mini-feud with Dragon Lee, the legendary star being out with injury has derailed the plans for GUNTHER.

With many of the top names on WWE Raw already settling into feuds for the road to WrestleMania, it seems that GUNTHER may be in a holding pattern from a storyline perspective.

6. Matt Cardona

One recently returned star to the WWE roster that seems set to miss out on a bout in Las Vegas is Matt Cardona.

It seems that Cardona may have been written out of contention for any notable WrestleMania 42 moments after a vicious attack by Randy Orton.

After Cardona called out Orton for his brutal assault on Cody Rhodes, Cardona got a sample of the treatment The Viper is handing out now that the voices in his head are back in action.

Laying out Cardona backstage, and then attacking him in the ring and leaving him bleeding on the ground at SmackDown, it would seem that Cardona could be set to pick up again after Las Vegas, but it unlikely for the event itself.

5. LA Knight

One potential showdown for GUNTHER that could be thrown together in order to prevent both from missing WrestleMania 42 could be LA Knight.

With initial rumors that Knight was set for a program with Brock Lesnar leading into WrestleMania 42, it was instead a major confrontation between Lesnar and Oba Femi that took center stage on a recent edition of WWE Raw.

With Lesnar’s open challenge decisively answered by Oba Femi, who managed to deliver his signature Fall From Grace powerbomb finisher to Lesnar before putting his foot on Lesnar’s chest to add insult to injury, LA Knight remains without an opponent.

Potentially able to face off against an invading heel from TNA Wrestling or NXT, there could certainly still be something coming up for The Megastar in Las Vegas, but right now, there isn’t a clear direction.

4. Rey Mysterio

A shake-up that ended up impacting both the legendary lucha star as well as seemingly GUNTHER, there isn’t a set timeline for return from injury for Rey Mysterio.

After suffering fractured ribs on both sides during a match against Austin Theory on WWE Raw on January 26, 2026, Mysterio still competed in the Royal Rumble later that week, but hasn’t been in action since.

While the WWE Hall of Famer has given a recent update regarding his status, noting that he is eyeing a return when able, it may not end up being in time for WrestleMania 42.

With Dominik Mysterio not currently medically cleared to compete either after a brutal AAA Mega Championship No DQ match against El Hijo del Vikingo, hopefully both Mysterios don’t miss the biggest show of the year.

3. Bronson Reed

After a hernia plaguing Bron Breakker ended up eliminating him from action on the road to WrestleMania, The Vision suffered another big blow.

With Bronson Reed also picking up and injury and being unable to compete, and Paul Heyman having been beaten down by Seth Rollins, there are really only two remaining members of the squad.

While Austin Theory and Logan Paul could end up finding themselves at odds with the WWE World Tag Team Champions The Usos at WrestleMania 42, Reed looks likely to miss out on the big event.

Suffering a distal biceps tear during an Elimination Chamber qualifying match in late February, Reed is expected to be out of action between four and six months.

2. Santos Escobar

One WWE name that had been absent from the main roster but appearing in AAA is Santos Escobar.

After competing in the four-way match to crown the 2026 winner of Rey de Reyes against both versions of El Grande Americano and La Parka, Escobar revealed he was set for an upcoming surgery.

Suffering a torn triceps muscle, Escobar vowed to be back in action in the future, but he is unlikely to end up making it to WrestleMania 42.

With the timing unfortunate for a setback, it could be that the next time fans see Escobar, he’s making a major return in either AAA or on the WWE main roster.

1. Jordynne Grace

While WrestleMania 42 was poised to be Jordynne Grace’s first Mania as an official member of the WWE main roster, an ankle injury could prove to be a barrier.

Although she seemed set to potentially challenge Giulia for the United States Championship at WrestleMania 42, it seems Jordynne Grace may be out of action.

While Grace was experiencing momentum in the weeks ahead of her injury, it could be that the next time she returns to in-ring action, she picks up where she left off.

With Giulia continuing in tag team action with Kiana James on the road to WrestleMania, she may end up not defending the US Title in Las Vegas at all.
