It is a time-honoured tradition for wrestlers to transition into the role of manager when their time in the ring comes to an end, and WWE has seen many examples of that.
Over the years, we’ve seen many memorable performers make this shift, including MVP, “The Million Dollar Man” Ted DiBiase, and Jake “The Snake” Roberts – all of whom brought their in-ring legacy and mic skills to a new role at ringside.
Regardless of the reason for stepping away from active competition, charisma and the ability to work the microphone are essential qualities for any successful manager.
Here are six current stars who we could see making that transition in the future.
6. Big E

Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods shocked WWE’s fanbase last November when they turned on their stablemate, Big E, beating him down on the 10th anniversary of The New Day’s formation.
Big E had been out of action since fracturing his neck in March 2022, following a devastating overhead belly-to-belly suplex that saw him land directly on his head.
Tragically, the 39-year-old may never be cleared to return to in-ring action.
However, with his undeniable charisma, a managerial role could be the perfect fit for him – guiding a young, up-and-coming team against his former New Day teammates.

5. Robert Roode

Robert Roode has retired from the ring, having wrestled his last match in June 2022.
Following neck fusion surgery, the former NXT and TNA World Champion has since transitioned into a producer role with WWE.
With his sharp mic skills and ability to get under the skin of the crowd, Roode would make a perfect heel manager.
Reassuming his “monied” persona from TNA, much like the legendary Million Dollar Man Ted DiBiase and his Million Dollar Corporation in the 1990s, Roode could start and manage a “Glorious” stable, using his wealth to buy talent to wrestle on his behalf.

4. Shane McMahon

Shane McMahon reportedly tried to end his wrestling hiatus last year by pitching to AEW owner Tony Khan the idea of taking over WWE’s rival company.
That, of course, never happened.
If “Shane-O” desired, another way back into the business could be as an on-screen manager – a role he’d be especially suited for, playing the egotistical mouthpiece who’s willing to take big bumps for the babyfaces his client faces.
It might be unlikely but pairing Shane with a rising top heel and letting him help steer their career could be a fresh and unique way to bring him back to WWE TV.

3. Nick Aldis

Since his arrival in WWE in 2023, former IMPACT and NWA World Champion Nick Aldis has made an effective on-screen General Manager.
However, this role is usually short-lived, with a new performer eventually taking the position.
Aldis, of course, could always return to the ring, donning the trunks and stepping back between the ropes.
Alternatively, with his slick mic skills, Aldis could transition into a managerial role, becoming a mouthpiece for another performer.

2. The Miz

After over 20 years with WWE, could The Miz be ready for a new role?
With his charisma and undeniable skills on the microphone, The Miz would be a natural fit for guiding a top heel to a world championship.
Much like his own career as a cocky and arrogant performer, Miz could foster those same traits in a new star brought up from NXT to the main roster.
At 44 years old and no longer as prominently featured in-ring, it could soon be time for him to make this transition.

1. William Regal

William Regal proved himself to be an incredibly compelling on-screen manager during his recent run in AEW, where he led the Blackpool Combat Club.
Since returning to WWE, he has appeared only sporadically on NXT.
Now, with his son Charlie Dempsey’s faction, the No Quarter Catch Crew, looking on the verge of splitting up, Regal could step in as his manager as Dempsey transitions to the main roster.
It’s a move that could benefit both his son and the fans – bringing Regal back to television full-time would be a big win all round.
