Three WWE stars to join new Cody Rhodes faction: Time for a new Nightmare Family?

WWE's Cody Rhodes

Not for the first time, Cody Rhodes paid the price for showing some hesitancy during a big match, when he failed to deliver a punt kick to Randy Orton at WWE Sunday Night’s Main Event.

This resulted in ‘The Viper’ delivering an RKO to Rhodes and picking up the win – a result that seemingly puts him at the front of the queue to challenge new Undisputed WWE Champion Sami Zayn.

With Rhodes needing a change in approach, he could look to the locker room for some inspiration in beginning a new chapter in his WWE career.

Here are three WWE stars to join a potential new Cody Rhodes heel faction:

Ricky Saints

One of Cody Rhodes’ closest friends in real life, Ricky Saints is someone who has yet to truly get going on the WWE main roster since being called up in April.

Saints’ first night saw him interrupt a Cody Rhodes promo, leading to a match between he and ‘The American Nightmare’ that he lost. While wins over Rhodes are now handed out to just anyone, securing a win such as this – even in an underhanded manner – could have been a tone-setter for his SmackDown career, but Saints didn’t get that.

Now feuding with Rey Fenix over the AAA Cruiserweight Championship, Saints should be the first name on Rhodes’ list if he was starting his own group, as he is the superstar who would certainly have the most to gain from an on-screen association with the three-time Undisputed WWE Champion.

Ethan Page

Another close friend of Rhodes who’s had a mixed time on the main roster thus far is Ethan Page.

Page has faired better than Saints for the most part, but has come up short in matches that matter most. His tag team with Rusev has been a highlight, but some fans feel as if his alliance with Saints from NXT was one that also could have been carried over to the main roster.

Page moving over to SmackDown to align with Saints and Rhodes would not only make for a nice AEW reunion, but also help Cody spotlight his two friends in a similar way to how he benefitted from his association with Randy Orton back in the day.

Paul Heyman

Fans clamouring for a heel Cody Rhodes and Paul Heyman alliance is nothing new, but the desire to see it has gotten louder in recent months as Cody’s character has come under more scrutiny.

Rhodes seemingly leaned into the speculation when he quoted Heyman’s “That’s not a prediction, it’s a spoiler” line during a segment with Randy Orton on the August 7 SmackDown, but we have yet to find out if that was an empty tease, or signalling of a future alliance.

With Heyman rather noncommittal to Bron Breakker and The Vision, perhaps he could jump ship to SmackDown and begin a highly intriguing new chapter with Rhodes.
