Can Royce Keys & OTM Become The New Shield In WWE?

Royce Keys and OTM on WWE Raw

On the August 24 episode of Monday Night Raw, Royce Keys made his return looking for revenge against The Bloodline, but he did not come alone.

Interfering in The Usos vs. LA Knight and Solo Sikoa main event, Key was joined by OTM in an attack on everyone.

Last time fans saw Keys, he was laid out and bloodied by his former friend Jacob Fatu.

Now that he was back, the former Powerhouse Hobbs, Lucien Price and Bronco Nima destroyed Knight, Sikoa, Jimmy and Jey Uso in one fell swoop.

This has led many fans to believe that this is the start of a new faction that will be feuding with Knight, Sikoa and The Bloodline on WWE Raw moving forward.

Considering they are feuding with Roman Reigns and his Bloodline, many have made allusions to believing that Keys and OTM could become a new Shield.

Looking back on the iconic stable, it begs the question if WWE can make this new unit into something close to The Shield in some form or fashion.

The Bloodline vs. The New Shield

When The Shield first debuted, Roman Reigns, Seth Rollins and Dean Ambrose were young stars who made a name for themselves in FCW before coming together to arrive on the WWE main roster.

Over the next year, WWE dedicated plenty of time into making The Shield a legitimate force.

With an undefeated streak and wins over top stars, Reigns, Rollins and Ambrose became headlining stars for the company before the fans’ eyes.

Looking at their rise, there are things that WWE can pull from for Royce Keys and OTM.

In another case of three new talents trying to establish themselves, WWE must do whatever necessary to present Keys and OTM as a dominant stable together.

Having this new trio beat top talent like LA Knight, Solo Sikoa and Jey Uso will help them cement their place in the company.

The Shield hit their peak in 2014 just two years after their debut. The faction could have gone on further and reach even greater heights.

However, WWE chose to break them up when they were at their hottest and thus made three top stars in the process.

Not waiting too long to let these three stars venture out on their own is something else WWE should do with this new unit.

Whether it be one full year or a few years, WWE has to realize that Royce Keys and OTM do not have to be together for years like other stables like The Judgment Day to make an impact.

WWE also did a wonderful job of placing Reigns, Rollins and Ambrose against the top acts in the company, such as John Cena, Daniel Bryan and Ryback.

Pitting Keys and OTM against The Bloodline immediately makes them into a big deal.

Now, the company having this new faction overcome and even destroy Roman Reigns and his family will be the only way to put them on the same level as this iconic stable.

Keys and OTM heading into War Games and walking victorious would be the best way to solidify this group.

Whatever the plans may be, patience, dedication and timing will be key attributes for WWE to use for Royce Keys and OTM to make them on the level of past factions like The Shield before them.
