The long-rumoured return of the all-women’s premium live event, WWE Evolution, was finally confirmed at Saturday Night’s Main Event.

Announced for Sunday, July 13, this will mark the second edition of the event – the first taking place back in 2018.

That critically acclaimed debut show featured Nikki Bella vs. Ronda Rousey in the main event, a classic Last Woman Standing match between Becky Lynch and Charlotte Flair, and a standout bout between Toni Storm and IYO SKY.

Here are the matches that could make this year’s card – the big question is, can they top the original?

7. Becky Lynch vs. Bayley

Bayley remains absent from WWE programming after being pulled from the WrestleMania 41 card, following a backstage attack by a mystery assailant – later revealed to be Becky Lynch.

Lynch’s continued verbal attacks against Bayley on Raw suggest her return is imminent, with their long-running on-and-off rivalry ready to recommence.

However, Lynch still has unfinished business with Lyra Valkyria, who recently cost her a spot in the Money in the Bank ladder match – setting up a final one-on-one bout at the PLE, where Bayley could make her big return.

That return could lead to a bout with Lynch at Evolution – and what would be more fitting than a Last Woman Standing match?

6. Rhea Ripley vs. Stephanie Vaquer

Evolution promises first-time encounters and dream matches between women across all three brands of the WWE roster.

One potential standout is a clash between Raw’s three-time Women’s World Champion Rhea Ripley and current NXT Women’s Champion Stephanie Vaquer.

In NXT, Vaquer is consistently delivering some of the best in-ring performances in the company, while Ripley remains one of WWE’s most over and accomplished in-ring workers.

A bout between the two could easily steal the show at Evolution.

5. Liv Morgan, Raquel Rodriguez & Roxanne Perez vs. Trish Status, Lita & Mickie James

The first Evolution show featured a legends’ tag team bout with Lita and Trish Stratus facing Alicia Fox and Mickie James – and there’s little doubt this year’s event will include some major returns too.

We could very well see the women of The Judgment Day – Liv Morgan, Raquel Rodriguez, and potential new member Roxanne Perez – take on a team of returning legends.

That opposing team could see the iconic duo of Lita and Stratus reunite, this time alongside Stratus’ longtime former rival, Mickie James.

It would make for a thrilling six-woman tag match that blends the past, present, and future of WWE’ women’s division.

4. Tiffany Stratton vs. Alexa Bliss

On the May 23 edition of SmackDown, Alexa Bliss made it clear she had her eye on current WWE Women’s Champion Tiffany Stratton.

This appeared to plant the seeds for a future showdown between the two.

With the return of the Wyatt Sicks and Bliss seemingly transitioning into the group, a renewed push could be on the horizon.

Could Bliss – aligned with the Wyatt Sicks – challenge for and capture the WWE Women’s Title from Stratton at WWE Evolution?

3. 20-Woman Battle Royal

At the inaugural WWE Evolution in 2018, a 20-woman battle royal was held – ultimately won by Nia Jax.

Given the depth of today’s women’s roster across all three brands, a repeat of this match type feels very likely, with space for returning legends as well.

Jax is sure to play a dominant role once again, as will fellow SmackDown powerhouse Jade Cargill – but a surprise underdog victory could steal the spotlight.

This would be the perfect opportunity to strap the proverbial rocket-pack to uber-talented NXT North American Women’s Champion Sol Ruca ahead of an eventual main roster call-up.

2. IYO SKY vs. Kairi Sane

In terms of dream matches for Evolution, few fit the bill more than a potential bout between current Women’s World Champion IYO SKY and her Damage CTRL partner Kairi Sane.

The two have never faced off one-on-one in a WWE ring, but their storied rivalry in Japan’s top joshi promotion, Stardom, produced several in-ring classics.

With Sane recently returning to action on Raw, the match could come about through either a friendly challenge or a potential feud between the former faction allies.

A main event title clash between them at WWE Evolution would have every chance of being a match-of-the-year contender.

1. Charlotte Flair vs. Giulia

In a Money in the Bank qualifier on the May 23 edition of SmackDown, Giulia pinned Zelina Vega in a three-way match that also included Charlotte Flair, securing her spot in the ladder match.

The bout offered a glimpse of what a one-on-one encounter between the veteran Flair and the standout, ultra-talented, company newcomer Giulia could deliver – both known for their rugged, physical in-ring styles.

Giulia’s victory helped ignite what could become a blockbuster, long-term rivalry between the pair.

A match between them at Evolution would be a high-profile showcase – and a win for Giulia could establish her as WWE’s next top-tier women’s star.
