While AEW has yet to have a permanent General Manager on-screen, perhaps the time has come for there to be a new authority figure.
After a big announcement regarding TNA Wrestling’s new weekly TV Thursday Night Impact! on AMC — it could be that Tony Khan looks to shake things up on screen in 2026.
Here are seven potential on-screen AEW General Managers that could takeover operations on Dynamite.
7. Will Ospreay

While Will Ospreay remains out of action due to injury, he could be a fun satellite GM for a period of time.
An amusing satire of the infamous 2011 storyline that saw an Anonymous WWE Raw General Manager communicate decisions via a laptop that was read aloud by Michael Cole.
While it could be a terribly kept secret who the mystery GM was (despite his notable Essex accent), it could be used to build towards a rivalry with a character who would not find the humor in the bit.
Making whenever he does make a return an even more delightful surprise than overcoming injury, he could immediately already have a full storyline and fan support built in for the return.

6. Tony Khan

While he has dabbled in some on-screen appearances, Khan has previously denied ever wanting to become an actual on-screen character.
However if the story was the right, perhaps Khan would consider getting more involved — especially if his participation was integral to the storyline.
With MJF still yet to return to AEW after his Tables n’ Tacks match against Mark Briscoe at AEW All Out 2025, he did have a backstage conflict that was overheard but not shown.
Making for an intriguing prospect, it seems that this is still not particularly probable in the near future.

5. Eric Bischoff

One on-screen icon from the history of professional wrestling is undoubtedly Eric Bischoff.
Known for his on-screen roles in both WCW and WWE, it could be that Bischoff brings the exact spark that AEW needs in terms of an authority figure.
Able to pull rank on even the most veteran of fellow on-screen characters, Bischoff could be presented in storyline as coming to “clean things up,” but end up facing a series of antics from all angles backstage.
With some recent comments about each other publicly being quite respectful, there could be a bridge for Bischoff and Khan to work together.

4. Kenny Omega

One potential current wrestler that could be great in a general manager role would be former AEW World Champion, Kenny Omega.
With some reports noting that AEW is looking to minimize Omega’s singles bouts out of an abundance of caution — it could be that Omega ends up as the perfect AEW General Manager.
Able to continue to have him feature on-screen but not have to engage in physicality on a routine basis, Omega could be the perfect AEW GM.
Now that he has reunited with The Young Bucks, it could be a lot of fun to see what their take on being babyface authority figures would be after already inflicting a reign of terror with Matthew & Nicholas’ EVP antics.

3. Paul Wight

Recently appearing ahead of Full Gear 2025, Wight was on commentary for the Zero Hero for the social media star Big Boom AJ teaming up with QT Marshall to take on RPG Vice.
Certainly still a beloved figure in professional wrestling, Wight could be a fun on-screen authority figure as well.
Featuring him striking a balance between being a peer to the locker room and his newfound GM status, there could be a lot of fun albeit wacky hijinks that go on with Wight.
Potentially flipping the trope of the on-screen authority figure from being overbearing or over serious into being quite affable, Wight could find more new ways to reinvent himself after decades in the industry.

2. Jeff Jarrett

An AEW name that could bring back the old school on-screen authority figure could be Jeff Jarrett.
Able to bring decades of experience, Jarrett has also featured on-screen already in AEW and is well regarded but with some intriguing enemies. With his clear animosity with MJF, it would be a fun flip on the past rivalries between talent and authority figures.
MJF could serve as the voice of wanting to make AEW flashier, slicker and more mainstream with Jarrett being accused by the up and comer of being antiquated and folksy.
Bringing a new element to the perpetual battle between good and evil in AEW over maintaining control over the company’s energy — Jarrett and MJF could square off without having to ever have a match.

1. Chris Jericho

Chris Jericho’s current contract with AEW is reportedly up at the end of 2025, potentially creating a scenario where the professional wrestling legend is a free agent come 2026.
With all rumors seemingly pointing to Jericho making a return to WWE, there hasn’t been anything near official confirmation.
However, there’s a couple ways that Jericho could still pull off a massive surprise — one of which would be making a shock return to AEW. Announcing that he had returned but this time with authority, there could be a brand new era of Jericho as he serves as the inaugural AEW General Manager.
Alternately to returning to AEW or re-signing with WWE, Jericho could be aligning with TNA Wrestling to launch their new weekly TV on AMC, Thursday Night Impact!, perhaps Chris Jericho has another disruptive move to make in the industry on his road to retirement. In the end, we’ll have to stay tuned to see what the future holds for the legend.
