With Jon Moxley seemingly losing his grip of control over the Death Riders in AEW as of late, there could be a replacement on the way.
From others who could step into his role as the leader of The Death Riders to others who could take on the mantle of being a long standing AEW Champion who leads a dominant faction, there are a couple ways to look at how AEW could replace Jon Moxley.
Here are six potential AEW replacements for Jon Moxley.
6. Gabe Kidd

Making an appearance during AEW Blood and Guts to help PAC set a table on fire before throwing Darby Allin through it, it already seems as though Gabe Kidd is an honorary Death Rider.
Potentially set to join the faction officially in the near future, it wouldn’t be particularly surprising to see Kidd join the stable before taking it over entirely.
Becoming the new leader of the Death Riders, Gabe Kidd could end up switching up how the group operates.
Ditching any semblance of even theoretical honor, a new Gabe Kidd-led Death Riders could end up causing complete anarchy in AEW.

5. Bobby Lashley

Bobby Lashley is an AEW star that could be poised to take over the AEW World Championship for a period of time and rule the company with a powerful force of allies – in the vein of Jon Moxley.
With Lashley able to pick up the World Title and rule over the men’s division for an extended reign, there could be some massive challengers who go up against him.
In potential feuds against heel Samoa Joe, MJF or even a returning Swerve Strickland, it would be great to see Lashley at the top of the AEW men’s division.
Sending the rest of the stable on their own journey to rule AEW, it could be an exciting 2026 for the Hurt Syndicate.

4. Swerve Strickland

While Swerve Strickland remains out of action due to injury for the time being, the former AEW World Champion seems intent on returning as soon as possible.
A candidate to not only have a long reign as AEW World Champion again, Strickland could certainly also end up being the leader of a powerful faction.
Assuming that Strickland may return as a babyface, it could be that his role in replacing Jon Moxley in AEW is to be the complete opposite of Moxley.
Bringing together his own faction, rather than being set on certain destruction, perhaps Strickland’s group could be a super-alliance of babyfaces like Will Ospreay, Hangman Adam Page and himself.

3. Claudio Castagnoli

A literal replacement for Jon Moxley in the Death Riders storyline on AEW TV could be Claudio Castagnoli.
While it seems that after continued losses that Moxley is losing his confidence and thereby perhaps control over the group, the next logical leader of the faction would be Claudio.
Able to step into the leadership role of the Death Riders without a ton of impact to the storyline, the former Blackpool Combat Club member has already demonstrated his penchant for violence to the AEW audience.
Definitely a heel that could go on his own championship reign in AEW, Claudio Castagnoli remains a quiet force to be reckoned with.

2. Samoa Joe

Another AEW star that could not only inflict a long reign on AEW as an unbeatable champion but could also come with his own frightening faction is Samoa Joe.
Already leading The Opps, Samoa Joe could certainly spend a period of time taking out multiple challengers to his reign at the top of the company.
Perhaps even bringing in new members of The Opps, the stable could pick up where the Death Riders might leave off in terms of violence and brutality.
With Joe set to face off against Hangman Adam Page at AEW Full Gear in a steel cage match for the AEW World Championship, The Opps could be on top very soon.

1. MJF

A potential returning AEW star that could make a major impact in the final month of 2025 is MJF.
While he was previously a faction leader himself with The Pinnacle, MJF has been a solo act for several years at this point.
Poised to return after his AEW All Out Tables n’ Tacks loss against Mark Briscoe, it could be that MJF decides to recruit a stable to help ensure he reclaims the AEW World Championship.
Able to keep hold of the division for quite some time yet again, MJF could certainly end up taking out challenger after challenger similarly to Moxley’s seemingly unbeatable run as the leader of the Death Riders.
