The curtain is set to come down very soon on the 25-year WWE career of John Cena.
At Survivor Series, he is set to compete in his penultimate match.
It remains up in the air who he will face on November 29 at Petco Park in California.
Here are six potential opponents for John Cena at WWE Survivor Series 2025.
6. Dominik Mysterio
Speculation on John Cena’s opponent for Survivor Series has centred on Intercontinental Champion Dominik Mysterio.
Across his two-and-a-half-decade career in WWE, the Intercontinental Title is one belt that has eluded Cena – facing Mysterio would give him a final shot at it.
Such has been the speculation that Mysterio himself has commented, stating his willingness to put “a final nail in Cena’s coffin.”
This appears to be one of the most likely bouts for Cena at Survivor Series – and it looks increasingly likely that he finally captures the Intercontinental Championship.

5. Bron Breakker
Bron Breakker’s push to the top of the WWE card appears to have been supercharged by Seth Rollins’ injury and Breakker subsequently kicking him out of their faction.
Facing and beating John Cena in his penultimate match could provide the 27-year-old star with further legitimacy as a top-tier name.
So, could we see it happen at Survivor Series?
At this point, it appears that Breakker is set to feature in the WarGames match on the show – and while it’s perhaps not completely out of the question, with plans up in the air following Rollins’ injury, a showdown with Cena seems unlikely.

4. Brock Lesnar
Brock Lesnar and John Cena renewed their career-long rivalry last month at Wrestlepalooza – their first match in a decade.
The one-sided demolition Lesnar handed Cena surprised many, leading to speculation that a rematch could happen before Cena retires.
However, this now appears unlikely for WWE Survivor Series, as there are reportedly no plans for Cena and Lesnar to face each other again.
In a rivalry that first began back in 2001, Lesnar stands as the ultimate victor.

3. The Rock
Could a massive surprise take place at Survivor Series with a trilogy bout between The Rock and John Cena?
Last week, The Rock appeared on Jason and Travis Kelce’s New Heights podcast, speaking about Cena’s retirement and revealing he had a “tiny bit of influence on it.”
Could he have been hinting that he’s ready to lace his boots up one more time to face Cena?
This one appears quite unlikely – WWE fans may have to wait until WrestleMania 43 in Saudi Arabia before The Rock steps back into the squared circle.

2. Gunther
There has been much talk that Gunther will face John Cena in a first-time meeting before Cena retires.
Gunther has not been seen on WWE programming since SummerSlam, where he lost the World Heavyweight Title to CM Punk before undergoing surgery on his nose.
Could we see him return in the coming weeks to set up a match against Cena for Survivor Series?
While it’s believed Gunther will be Cena’s final opponent, he’s unlikely to face him at Survivor Series – but we could very well see him appear at the show to confront and challenge Cena.

1. Joe Hendry
TNA star Joe Hendry has stated on several occasions his desire to face John Cena before Cena retires.
Hendry now appears to be on the verge of making the transition from TNA to WWE – and could even bypass NXT, where he’s been a regular presence over the past year.
However, while his debut on Raw or Smackdown seems imminent, it doesn’t appear likely to happen soon enough for him to realize his stated goal of stepping into the ring with John Cena.
