Baron Corbin is the most recent WWE star that has undergone a gimmick change.
In fact, he went back to his most fondly remembered gimmick, The Lone Wolf, although judging by the latest episode of NXT, it seems like that might have been a one-off and he might be ditching that too to start something completely new.
Whether it be a back-to-the-roots attempt or a completely new gimmick, it could be argued that several stars in WWE are currently in need of something different.
Starting with one that even holds a championship right now…
Austin Theory
A lot of fans believe the current WWE United States Champion’s title reign has grown stale.
He definitely is the future of the company. Luckily he is still young and there is plenty of time for a different approach with Theory altogether.
In NXT, The Way was designed to get the crowd invested into Austin Theory as a human being and it worked. However, when alone, he was back to being the obnoxious heel.
This worked for a while, but it seems to have run its course. Theory has proven in appearances outside of the ring that he could easily be a babyface, and perhaps something more similar to the version of him we saw in The Way, maybe even a full reunion, would do him some good.

Aliyah
Former WWE Women’s Tag Team Champion Aliyah suffered an injury in September and hasn’t been seen since, even though she was reportedly cleared to return just a couple of months later.
Despite holding gold for a brief time, she never really cemented herself on the WWE main roster and was unable to establish a connection with much of the crowd.
Almost a decade ago, Raquel Diaz (Shaul Guerrero), daughter of Eddie Guerrero, had vignettes about the “Exfoliating Ugliness Tour” – a heel gimmick that saw her degrading her opponents for their looks.
It seems like a similar gimmick would suit Aliyah once she returns as something that would bring out her true qualities that have not been used since she left NXT.

Butch/Pete Dunne
It is not a secret that Triple H is a huge supporter of Pete Dunne.
Yet he is still stuck with the Butch name and gimmick as part of the Brawling Brutes that was given to him when he was called up to the main roster under Vince McMahon.
And while the Brutes are a very fun tag team, a lot of fans believe it is time for The Bruiserweight to return to his old ways.
He has got so much more to offer besides being an Englishman hungry for a fight in a three-man group where he isn’t even the leader.

The Dyad/Grizzled Young Veterans
There is probably not a single act I personally would love to see return to WWE more. Jagger Reid and Rip Fowler are still part of The Schism with Joe Gacy and Ava.
In addition, they are also seemingly on their way out of the company, as they requested their releases earlier this year, had that request denied, then publicly announced they’d be free agents when their contracts expire this coming October. Since that news made the rounds, the duo has actually been getting a lot more TV time than before.
What is the plan here? They won a ‘Loser Leaves NXT’ match that most people thought they’d lose, but there are increasing trust issues between the duo and their stablemates.
I say: Bring back Liverpool’s No.1 Zack Gibson and James Drake if a new deal for them to stay can be agreed. The Grizzled Young Veterans are perfect for the main roster.

Shelton Benjamin
Yes. Bring back the “Eyes Gimmick”. Just kidding. The Gold Standard Shelton Benjamin is what needs to come back ASAP!
Shelton is probably in the final stages of his career and teaming with Cedric Alexander is great when they’re used right… but having Shelton return to the Gold Standard? WWE should absolutely do that.
The crowd loved to hate him and he still has enough in the tank to amaze fans with his fire lines and moves.
Ain’t No Stoppin’ him if they bring back this character – including the music.

Bayley
It is time. We have had the bad girl Bayley for long enough.
It is time for the true Bayley to return. Damage CTRL is most likely going to end before the year ends as IYO SKY is ready to walk alone.
Bayley is a pillar of the women’s division and she has earned herself a break from getting booed.
It is time to turn it up one more time.
