Since CM Punk moved over to WWE SmackDown as the Undisputed WWE Champion, there has been nothing short of chaos that has followed him.
Punk has many wrestlers eying up his championship, including former champions, recent rivals, old rivals and those looking to once again reach the mountain top after years away.
With so many sharks circling, there are a lot of big matches we could see for the title in the coming months.
Here are some potential Undisputed WWE Championship plans for the next few months.
CM Punk vs. Sami Zayn In Mexico City
Ever since he lost the Undisputed WWE Championship to CM Punk in Chicago, Sami Zayn has continued to be screwed time and time again out of opportunities to regain his title.
From matches never taking place, to GM interference against his tag team partner, to having two competitors added to his contender’s match, it seems like a lot of people don’t want Sami to regain his title within WWE.
WWE SmackDown is set to head to Mexico City on September 11, and WWE may want to run a big title match on TV that night.
Punk vs. Zayn in Mexico City would make for a big time SmackDown main event in Mexico.
CM Punk vs. GUNTHER II
Another rematch we are yet to see out of Punk’s title run is with Gunther, the former World Heavyweight Champion who Punk beat to win the World Title from at SummerSlam 2025.
Punk and Gunther have remained in each other’s orbits since then, though Gunther got sidetracked with a feud with Nick Aldis while Punk was dealing with Cody.
With Gunther now once again having his sights solely on the Undisputed WWE Championship, we could soon see a big rematch between Punk and Gunther take place.
CM Punk vs. Kevin Owens vs. Sami Zayn
When the first-time ever encounter between Punk and Kevin Owens took place, fans were hoping that it would end with a clean finish, which didn’t end up happening.
Sami Zayn would get involved, costing Owens the match and the Undisputed WWE Championship, before also laying out CM Punk.
With the linked history between all three men, a three-way match between Owens, Zayn and Punk would be an incredible match to run for the title soon.
Of course, that wasn’t the only match that Sami recently ruined…
CM Punk vs. Kevin Owens vs. Sami Zayn vs. GUNTHER vs. Finn Balor
Last week’s SmackDown main event ended up going to a non-finish after Sami Zayn once again got involved, laying out all three of the competitors, as well as Punk.
With Sami, Owens, Gunther and Finn Balor now all in the title picture, we could see any combination of the men face off in a major match on SmackDown soon.
However, throwing all five men into one match would create a can’t miss main event that could serve as a way to get the belt onto someone else without having to beat Punk outright.
CM Punk vs. Randy Orton
While Punk has to deal with Sami Zayn, Kevin Owens, Gunther and Finn Balor right now, there is another ominous threat lurking, that being Randy Orton.
Despite being at loggerheads with Cody Rhodes since his return, Orton took time out of his busy schedule to approach Punk backstage two weeks ago to warn him that he still had his eyes on number 15.
When Randy is done with Cody, he will almost certainly be gunning for the top spot, regardless of who has it.
