With AEW WrestleDream 2025 fast approaching on October 18, there have been some previously expected matches canceled.
From bouts that seemed likely to happen to other storylines that have seemingly been forced to be scrapped entirely, there have already been changes on the road to the event.
Here are six AEW WrestleDream 2025 matches that ended up canceled.
6. Mercedes Mone vs. Queen Aminata – AEW TBS Championship
The longest reigning TBS Champion Mercedes Mone confirmed on the latest episode of Dynamite that she would be appearing at the event despite not having a match booked.
While there is no shortage of valid contenders for the AEW TBS Championship, there are few babyfaces match the star power of Queen Aminata. Potentially becoming a heated new rivalry for Mone, Queen Aminata has continued to impress with her in-ring skills and connection to audiences.
Another option could also have been Willow Nightingale, but at time of writing, there is no match listed on the card for Mercedes Mone.
With two title bouts scheduled outside of AEW for this weekend – including a CMLL match against Persephone on Friday, October 17 and another in Canada for Winnipeg Pro Wrestling on Sunday, October 19 – the CEO has a busy weekend ahead.

5. Kenny Omega vs. Andrade El Idolo
After departing AEW in December 2023, Andrade El Idolo made a return to WWE with a big moment entering the Royal Rumble 2024.
After recently parting ways with WWE again, it has been reported that Andrade had been fired – he shortly thereafter made a surprise appearance returning to AEW and attacking Kenny Omega.
But if the plan was for Andrade to have a major match against the former AEW World Champion at WrestleDream 2025, it seems the plans have been scrapped.
With an on-going legal issue regarding Andrade’s non-compete status, it could be quite some time before AEW fans see Andrade El Idolo pop up again.

4. Kris Statlander vs. Jamie Hayter
Timeless Toni Storm faced off against three big contenders at AEW All Out when she tangled with Kris Statlander, Jamie Hayter and Thekla in a four-way match for the AEW Women’s World Championship.
Ultimately, it was Kris Statlander who picked up the victory over Storm.
Noted by Tony Khan on the AEW WrestleDream 2025 media call, Statlander and Storm have never faced each other one-on-one, a bout that is coming together at the event by design, while there are separate plans for Hayter and Thekla.
Elsewhere on the card for WrestleDream, Hayter takes on Thekla in their own one-on-one matchup.

3. AEW Women’s Tag Team Championship Match
On the September 24 edition of AEW Dynamite, AEW CEO and President Tony Khan made an on-screen appearance with an announcement.
Confirming the introduction of the new AEW Women’s Tag Team Championship, Khan noted that the inaugural champions would be crowned “soon”.
While there weren’t a ton of specifics provided, it seemed as though perhaps there could be a series of matches leading up to crowning the first champs at AEW WrestleDream.
However, the fast turnaround time between announcement and this pay-per-view may have not afforded enough space for the stories to come together.

2. The Opps vs. The Demand – AEW World Trios Championship
One potential title bout that didn’t make the cut for WrestleDream was a title defense by The Opps of the AEW World Trios Championship.
While it seemed that The Demand could be in line for a trios title shot, instead at WrestleDream 2025 they will continue their feud with the Hurt Syndicate in a tornado trios match.
The Opps just successfully defended the title when they defeated La Faccion Ingobernable on the October 15 edition of AEW Dynamite.
Opps member Samoa Joe is set to face off against Hangman Adam Page for the AEW World Championship at WrestleDream 2025, rather than the group defending the trios championship.

1. Kazuchika Okada vs. Orange Cassidy – AEW Unified Championship
After the much anticipated return of Orange Cassidy to AEW, it seemed as though he could be headed for a title shot at WrestleDream 2025 for the AEW Unified Championship.
Instead, there will be different title match for Kazuchika Okada – teaming with fellow Don Callis Family member and new IWGP World Heavyweight Champion Konosuke Takeshita to take on AEW Tag Team Champions Brody King & Bandido.
After Okada interrupted Takeshita’s pre-recorded greeting for Don Callis’ birthday celebration, it would seem that there is still trouble brewing between the pair.
Potentially a vehicle for the duo of Okada and Takeshita to finally explode at one another, this match will end up being easier for Brodido than they may have imagined.
