New Level AEW plans after World Trios Championship loss: What’s next for Kofi & Austin Creed following WrestleDream 2026?

The New Day (Kofi Kingston & Xavier Woods) in WWE

Kofi and Austin Creed of the New Level are no longer champions, with the duo dropping their gold at the October 17 AEW WrestleDream pay-per-view.

With Kofi, Austin and Swerve Strickland winning the AEW World Trios Championship in a seven-team Trios Roulette Royal bout at All In London, the trio put their gold on the line against “Hangman” Adam Page, Brody King and Bandido at WrestleDream in a Two out of Three Falls bout.

Page & Brodido ultimately won back their gold, defeating Strickland & the New Level two falls to one to take home the championship.

With the New Level and Swerve Strickland looking set to pursue separate goals, there has been some speculation about what’s next for the team previously known as the New Day in WWE.

Here are three potential directions for Kofi & Austin Creed of the New Level following their Trios Championship loss.

Young Bucks AEW World Tag Team Championship feud

The most obvious direction for Creed & Kofi is for them to enter the AEW Tag Team Championship division.

With Kofi & Creed being the newcomers, there are plenty of matches for them to have in the two-on-two division, none of which have been more highly anticipated than a clash with Matt & Nick Jackson.

With the Young Bucks vs the New Day being a dream match even while they were in separate companies, now could be the time for AEW to pull the trigger and get the ball rolling.

Of course, this isn’t the only avenue for a New Level vs Young Bucks feud…

Elite rivalry

At E3 2018, Kofi, Austin and Big E of The New Day faced off against Matt Jackson, Nick Jackson and Kenny Omega of The Elite in a team battle on Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition.

For a long time, it seemed like this would be the closest we’d ever get to seeing a New Day vs Elite match, however with Kofi and Creed now in AEW, this match is possible with five out of the six originally envisioned competitors.

Whether it’s Swerve Strickland replacing Big E or another star, a three on three match between the real-life friends would be exciting, and feel like a full-circle moment.

However, we could see Kofi and Creed pursue their own goals away from the tag-team division…

Pursuing singles gold

While Kofi and Austin Creed arrived in AEW as a package deal, we’ve seen that they’re more than willing to go after singles championships.

After defeating ROH Pure Champion Lee Moriarty in non-title action on the October 3 Collision episode, Kofi challenged for Bandido’s ROH World Title the following week at Dynamite: Grand Slam France.

While the former WWE Champion was unsuccessful on this occasion, Kofi felt like he belonged there, in the ring with a top singles champion.

Austin Creed has yet to wrestle in the singles division since arriving in AEW, but it would be intriguing to also see how the former King of the Ring winner would reinvent himself while going one-on-one on Dynamite and Collision.
