While movement between WWE and AEW is no surprise, there are still some amazing prospects that could elect to make the leap.

Following others who laid foundations in AEW only to find themselves starting over in WWE, the are some AEW legends that could flip brands in the future.

Here are six AEW legends that may sign with WWE.

6. Chris Jericho

Following in the footsteps of Cody Rhodes before him as a founding member of the AEW roster who elected to depart, it could be Chris Jericho who is the next to make the leap.

With Jericho’s band Fozzy has been announced for a UK tour throughout the month of February for some time, it wasn’t a major surprise that he ended up not making a surprise return at the Royal Rumble.

Potentially being reserved for a major WrestleMania 42 return in Las Vegas, there are certainly some fun storylines that could be imagined for Jericho back in WWE.

Able to tangle with the likes of CM Punk and Cody Rhodes, Jericho could be even more effective at adding depth and prestige to the likes of the current United States Championship or even returning to target the Intercontinental Championship and a record-extending 10th reign.

5. Paige

Former WWE star Saraya (Paige)

One ex-WWE star that fans continue to hope may make a return in the future is Paige.

In March 2025, Saraya announced her departure from AEW after a three year run with the promotion that saw her return to the ring with success.

Capturing the AEW Women’s World Championship during her time in the company, she remains the only woman to hold the NXT Women’s Championship, WWE Divas Championship and the AEW Women’s World title.

Potentially still with plenty of stories to tell with former foes and friends alike, Paige could also make a return to tangle with a brand new era of stars.

With the return of his wife Brie Bella and sister-in-law Nikki Bella to WWE, perhaps the next to return will be Daniel Bryan.

Having departed WWE back in May 2021, Bryan Danielson would go on to continue in-ring competition in AEW.

Becoming a cornerstone of AEW since his arrival in the company, it would be somewhat surprising to see Danielson jump ship back to WWE – but there could certainly be a role for him.

Able to appear as an on-screen authority figure perpetually teasing one more match, Daniel Bryan’s return to WWE from AEW would be just as huge as Cody Rhodes & CM Punk.

3. Billy Gunn

A return to WWE that would seem logical at some point in the future is that of Billy Gunn.

While he’s still fondly remembered by professional wrestling fans for his time in D-Generation X, he has made a big impact as a member of The Acclaimed in AEW as well.

Despite being one of the earliest announced members of the AEW roster, Gunn has continued to appear on TV throughout his time in the company.

Publicly noting that he has two contracts with AEW – one for backstage work with the company and another as a talent – it could be some time before the stars align in order to make this move possible.

2. Jim Ross

WWE Hall of Famer and AEW announcer Jim Ross

One major name still with AEW that could make the leap back to WWE is Jim Ross.

Voicing an entire generation of WWE’s biggest moments, the legendary commentator remains a beloved fan favorite.

While Jim Ross remains contracted with AEW, he makes rare appearances typically for big matches or big moments.

A legend in the industry that would be a solid addition to WWE even if it meant he only did remote voiceover work for vignettes, there’s a lot of goodwill for Ross amongst the fanbase.

1. Danhausen

While his time in AEW may not have been lengthy, Danhausen’s impact was definitely noticeable.

With a quirky and fun character that could certainly translate to WWE seamlessly, it could make sense to see the Very Nice, Very Evil character make the leap.

What is certainly less clear is when exactly Danhausen could be available for action with his AEW status remaining murky.

While he hasn’t seen in-ring action in over two years, the star remains active in indie wrestling and seemingly could pop-up in WWE as soon as contractually able.
