With WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event airing on May 24, 2025, there are four matches announced for the two-hour NBC special.

While there could still be something added, the other recent SNMEs have been set at four matches, so the card may be finalized at this point.

Here are eight matches that seemed likely for WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event that ended up not taking place.

8. CM Punk & Roman Reigns vs. Bron Breakker & Seth Rollins

After Paul Heyman betrayed both CM Punk and Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 41 – aligning with Seth Rollins and later Bron Breakker – it seemed logical that this major match would happen at Saturday Night’s Main Event.

However, in the interim, CM Punk ended up forging an unlikely alliance with Sami Zayn and will instead be teaming with him to take on Rollins and Breakker.

With no announced appearance for Roman Reigns, it is unlikely (but not impossible) that the Tribal Chief makes an appearance for the show.

More likely, fans will have to continue to wait to see if Reigns and Punk ever align in their mutual hatred of Rollins.

7. Cody Rhodes vs. Anyone

After some fans spotted that Cody Rhodes was listed by WWE as set to appear at the May 16 edition of SmackDown, it seemed that perhaps he would be returning in advance of Saturday Night’s Main Event.

However, Rhodes did not end up appearing and his absence continues.

Rhodes has been away since losing the Undisputed WWE Championship to John Cena at WWE WrestleMania 41.

While he definitely could make an appearance during John Cena vs R-Truth, it doesn’t seem like Cody will be announced in advance for the show.

6. GUNTHER vs. Jey Uso

Although GUNTHER is clearly not done with Jey Uso yet, there will not be a WrestleMania rematch for them at Saturday Night’s Main Event.

Rather, GUNTHER has already made it clear that he has been granted a match against the WWE World Heavyweight Champion – whether it is Logan Paul or Jey Uso – for the WWE Raw on June 9.

Uso is tasked with taking on an entirely different kind of opponent at Saturday Night’s Main Event on NBC – Logan Paul.

With the sneaky social media sensation always having some kind of treachery up his sleeve, we’ll see how far Jey can continue to Yeet into the history books with another successful title defense.

5. GUNTHER vs. Goldberg

After it was revealed that Goldberg would be participating in his own retirement match in 2025, speculation began as to who he’d be facing.

Goldberg’s last on-screen appearance in WWE included being insulted and disrespected by GUNTHER at Bad Blood 2024, and the Ring General’s match at Backlash 2025 against Pat McAfee seemed like the perfect segue.

There was no sign of Goldberg at Backlash, but with GUNTHER set to face Jey Uso or Logan Paul on the June 9 edition of WWE Raw, maybe GUNTHER’s comeuppance will come then.

It appears the eventual expected GUNTHER vs Goldberg match could take place at a major event like SummerSlam – but it won’t be at Saturday Night’s Main Event.

4. Becky Lynch vs. Lyra Valkyria

Lyra Valkyria retained the WWE Women’s Intercontinental Championship against Becky Lynch at Backlash, but Lynch attacked Valkyria post-match.

That would seem to set up a future rematch, but it seems Valkyria is off TV at least for the time being.

However, there are some indications that Bayley could be returning with a vengeance and coming for Lynch after Bayley was attacked by Lynch backstage ahead of WrestleMania 41.

It seems that another showdown between Valkyria and Lynch is inevitable – but it won’t be happening at Saturday Nights Main Event.

3. IYO SKY vs. Rhea Ripley

While Bianca Belair is out of action due to an injury sustained at WrestleMania 41, there is still a score to settle between IYO SKY and Rhea Ripley.

However, it doesn’t seem as though it will be happening on NBC for WWE Saturday Night Main Event from Tampa, Florida.

Rather, there aren’t any women’s matches currently announced for the show – so there is a possibility that something could still be added.

Perhaps saving the next title defense for the Money in the Bank PLE or even beyond, fans will have to wait a bit longer to get to see SKY vs Ripley one-on-one.

2. Tiffany Stratton vs. Nia Jax

Nia Jax captured the #1 contendership for Tiffany Stratton’s WWE Women’s Championship over Jade Cargill – albeit with a slight assist from Naomi.

While it seemed possible that Jax and Stratton would face off for the title at Saturday Night’s Main Event, instead the match was announced for SmackDown.

Stratton ended up beating her former ally Jax on the May 16 episode of SmackDown to retain her title.

Another possible match that didn’t come to fruition for the network special would be Naomi taking on Jade Cargill since their feud is clearly not over yet, and/or a four-way featuring all of Naomi, Cargill, Stratton and Jax.

1. Jacob Fatu vs. Solo Sikoa

When Jacob Fatu captured the WWE United States Championship at WrestleMania 41, he cemented himself as a fan favorite.

However, still associated with Solo Sikoa, it seemed inevitable that Solo’s jealousy could overtake him and he would turn against Fatu.

But instead of using a debuting interloper in Jeff Cobb (later renamed JC Mateo) to hurt Fatu, the pair helped Jacob retain his title. However, clearly the conflict within the new Bloodline is far from over.

Given the pace of storytelling over the Triple H era of WWE TV, this showdown isn’t likely until a major event in the future – possibly SummerSlam or even later.
