The 39th annual WWE Survivor Series takes place on 29 November.

For the first time ever, WWE will hold the event in a stadium – Petco Park in San Diego, California.

Given the scale of the show, there are likely to be several big-time surprises.

Here are six surprises we could see at WWE Survivor Series 2025.

6. John Cena Captures Intercontinental Championship

John Cena is set to wrestle his penultimate match at Survivor Series.

While the bout has yet to be confirmed, much of the speculation centers on current Intercontinental Champion Dominik Mysterio.

Surprisingly, the Intercontinental Title is the one singles championship that has eluded Cena across his 25-year WWE career.

One of the biggest surprises at the PLE could very well be Cena finally capturing the title – and winning one last championship before his career comes to an end in December.

5. LA Knight Turns Heel

WWE star LA Knight

Seth Rollins’ unfortunate shoulder injury has created a major vacancy on the heel side of WWE’s roster.

As a result, we could soon see a big-time heel turn – the question is, who could make the biggest impact?

LA Knight has proven himself to be one of WWE’s most popular babyfaces in recent years, but much of his pre-WWE career saw him thrive as an arrogant, loudmouthed heel.

With Knight likely to feature in the men’s WarGames match at the show, could Survivor Series be the night he turns on his teammates and establishes himself as one of Raw’s top heels?

4. Team AJ Lee Defeats Team Becky Lynch

At the time of writing, there has been little official indication of which stars will feature in the women’s WarGames match at Survivor Series.

However, WWE’s reported initial plans involved AJ Lee, Rhea Ripley, Charlotte Flair, Alexa Bliss and IYO SKY facing Becky Lynch, Asuka, Kairi Sane, Nia Jax and Lash Legend.

With several storylines potentially converging in that bout, one possible outcome could see AJ Lee continue her feud with Becky Lynch – with Lee scoring the victory over her rival.

Such an outcome would firmly establish Lee as the number one contender for Lynch’s Intercontinental Championship.

3. Gunther Returns

One likely surprise at the show could be the return of Gunther.

Gunther has been absent from WWE programming since SummerSlam at the beginning of August, taking time off to undergo surgery on his nose.

However, it has been widely speculated that Gunther could be John Cena’s final opponent – with the two potentially meeting on 13 December at Saturday Night’s Main Event – meaning he’ll need to reappear soon.

At Survivor Series, we could see Cena finally capture the Intercontinental Title for the first time in his career, only to be confronted by the returning ‘Ring General.’

2. Brock Lesnar Joins Team Paul Heyman In WarGames

On the subject of WarGames matches, the competitors in the men’s bout also remain unknown.

Originally scheduled to be a five-on-five match pitting The Vision, led by Seth Rollins, against a team led by Roman Reigns, the plans now appear completely up in the air following Rollins’ unfortunate shoulder injury.

One thing we could very well see at WWE Survivor Series, however, is Brock Lesnar once again reuniting with Paul Heyman and leading the heel team into WarGames.

Lesnar’s inclusion in the match could lead to several surprising outcomes – from setting up a feud with Bron Breakker or CM Punk to reigniting a longstanding rivalry with Roman Reigns.

1. Randy Orton Turns On Cody Rhodes

LA Knight isn’t the only WWE star who could make a big-time heel turn at Survivor Series: a Randy Orton turn also appears to be on the cards.

This year has seen Orton play an uncharacteristically honourable babyface, forming an informal alliance with Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes.

However, since Rhodes defeated Orton in the finals of the King of the Ring tournament at Night of Champions, there have been subtle teases that Orton could eventually turn on him.

Orton’s extended run as a heroic babyface could very well come to an end at Survivor Series, setting up a major feud with Rhodes over the title.
