On October 18, AEW presents its latest pay-per-view, WrestleDream.
As is characteristic of the company, the card is stacked – featuring a men’s world title bout between Hangman Page and Samoa Joe, Darby Allin facing Jon Moxley in an “I Quit” match likely to culminate their violent blood feud, and Toni Storm looking to regain the AEW Women’s World Championship against Kris Statlander.
Alongside the promise of several in-ring bangers, there’s also the strong likelihood of multiple surprises from the company.
Here are six surprises we could see at AEW WrestleDream.
6. Hikaru Shida Returns

Hikaru Shida is a three-time AEW Women’s World Champion and was arguably the most prominently featured star of the women’s division during the company’s early years.
The 37-year-old Japanese star, however, has not wrestled in AEW for nearly a year – her last appearance coming in November.
She’s not going anywhere though, having recently announced on her own YouTube channel that she has re-signed with the company.
Given this, her return appears imminent – and it could very well happen as soon as WrestleDream.

5. Sting Appears

The “I Quit” match between Darby Allin and Jon Moxley could lend itself to some surprises.
One of those would be seeing Sting return to aid his long-time tag team partner, Darby Allin.
The appearance of ‘The Icon’ would undoubtedly blow the roof off St Louis’ Chaifetz Arena, as he takes out members of The Death Riders to even the odds for Allin against Moxley.
That could then lead to Moxley “quitting,” leaving Allin the victor and marking the end of one of the most intense blood feuds in AEW history.

4. Cedric Alexander Debuts

The Hurt Syndicate and Ricochet’s faction, The Demand, are currently locked in a heated rivalry – for the first time in their AEW tenure, The Hurt Syndicate have suffered multiple losses, dropping both tag and trios matches to The Demand.
The two groups are set to meet again in a tornado trios match at the WrestleDream – but could The Hurt Syndicate receive some assistance on the show?
Fightful recently reported that Cedric Alexander – the fourth member of The Hurt Business during its WWE run – has a short-term deal with TNA that’s coming to an end.
Moreover, according to the Wrestling Observer, MVP has been pushing to bring Alexander into AEW, so could WrestleDream see his surprise debut, reuniting with his former stablemates and helping them secure the victory?

3. Adam Copeland & Christian Cage Attack FTR

Adam Copeland and Christian Cage have not been seen since Cope announced he needed to “go home” after his wife, Beth Phoenix, was attacked by FTR – who hit her with a spiked piledriver at last month’s All Out.
FTR themselves are set to clash with Jetspeed on AEW WrestleDream’s pre-show, Tailgate Brawl.
There’s every chance that Cope and Christian could return during the event, attacking FTR and getting a measure of revenge.
And we may even see another surprise appearance from Beth Phoenix on the show as well.

2. Mercedes Moné Offers Open Challenge

On the go-home episode of Dynamite ahead of WrestleDream, TBS Champion Mercedes Moné announced that she would be at the show.
However, as of now, she doesn’t have a match officially scheduled.
Could we see a surprise open challenge for her TBS Title announced – perhaps even as late as the Tailgate Brawl pre-show?
If so, there are certainly intriguing possibilities, including the returning Hikaru Shida or even the AEW debut of former NXT Women’s Champion Shayna Baszler.

1. Gabe Kidd Involved In “I Quit” Match

At AEW WrestleDream, Jon Moxley and Darby Allin square off in an “I Quit” match.
This bout appears set to culminate their year-long rivalry – and given the levels of danger, risk-taking and blood-letting they delivered in their coffin match at All Out, one can only imagine what this encounter will look like.
As with every chapter of their feud, it’s unlikely to remain a one-on-one contest, with The Death Riders almost certain to get involved.
One surprise we could see during the match is the return of New Japan Pro-Wrestling’s Gabe Kidd, who hasn’t been seen on AEW programming since Allin stuffed him into a body bag and drove off with him.
