With AEW Double or Nothing bringing the annual Memorial Day tradition to Arizona for the first time, the card is fully stacked.

However, there are some matches that seemed highly likely in weeks past that didn’t end up making the cut or storyline shifts saw them not happen at all.

Here are six AEW Double or Nothing 2025 matches that seemed possible but didn’t end up coming to fruition.

6. MJF vs. Bobby Lashley

AEW Hurt Syndicate and MJF

While ultimately it appears that MJF has joined the Hurt Syndicate – for the time being at least – it seems as though the partnership may be ultimately doomed to fail.

Bobby Lashley was the biggest hurdle stopping MJF from being welcomed into the Hurt Syndicate, with their issues potentially setting up a future match.

However, for the time being, Lashley has agreed to allow MJF into the group, so perhaps the match is being saved for AEW All In Texas instead.

At Double Or Nothing, Lashley teams with Shelton Benjamin to defend the AEW World Tag Team Championship against Dustin Rhodes and Sammy Guevara, and it’s very likely MJF will play a part in the result of that match.

5. Timeless Toni Storm vs. Skye Blue

With Skye Blue making a big return on AEW Dynamite after being out of action for ten months, it seemed possible that she could pick up the title eliminator win.

However, it ended up being Mina Shirakawa who defeated Toni Storm, AZM and Skye Blue to earn the shot at Storm’s AEW Women’s World Championship at Double or Nothing 2025.

While there could definitely still be an AEW Women’s World Title in Skye Blue’s future, it won’t be at Double or Nothing 2025.

Also, the winner of the Owen Hart Foundation tournament final between Mercedes Mone and Jamie Hayter at Double or Nothing is set to determine who will face the AEW Women’s World Champion at AEW All In Texas in July.

4. Athena vs. Jamie Hayter

While the Owen Hart Foundation tournament final for the women has ultimately come down to Jamie Hayter vs. Mercedes Mone – when the bracket was revealed, some fans immediately hoped to see the final come down to a different pairing.

With Athena having held the ROH Women’s Championship for over 800 days, her domination hasn’t crossed over much to AEW.

While she ultimately did advance to the semi-finals – facing Mercedes Mone in a match that the latter ended up winning – it still would have been interesting to see Athena capture the win.

If the final had been Athena vs. Jamie Hayter, the finalists could have ended up yielding a challenger for Mercedes Mone’s TBS Championship and Toni Storm’s AEW Women’s World Championship, but that’s not the case.

3. Adam Cole vs. Sammy Guevara

After capturing a win in the $100,000 High Speed Collision four-way recently, Sammy Guevara made his intentions clear.

Pointing at TNT Champion Adam Cole who was on commentary for the match, it certainly seemed as though the pair were headed for a title bout.

However, both have ended up set for entirely different matches at Double or Nothing, as Sammy Guevara will team with Dustin Rhodes to challenge Bobby Lashley and Shelton Benjamin for the AEW World Tag Team Championship.

Meanwhile, Adam Cole will team with Kyle O’Reilly and Roderick Strong in a trios match against Kyle Fletcher, Konosuke Takeshita and Josh Alexander.

2. Jay White vs. Hangman Adam Page

Ahead of the Owen Hart Foundation tournament, Jay White sustained an injury that reportedly required surgery, resulting in him being removed from the tournament.

Replacing him in the bracket was new AEW signee Kevin Knight. The former NJPW star fell to Will Ospreay in the first round.

Ospreay would go on to make it to the finals where he is set to face off against Hangman Adam Page.

However, if White hadn’t been injured, perhaps it would have been him that ended up in the Owen Cup final and poised to get an AEW World Championship match at AEW All In Texas.

1. Cope & Daniel Garcia vs. FTR

With FTR returning with a new manager in Stokely (who recently officially dropped the surname Hathaway), Cash Wheeler and Dax Harwood have a decidedly nastier attitude.

Waging a vicious assault on seemingly close friend Adam Copeland, ultimately taking him out of action, Cope hasn’t been seen since his friends hit him with his own signature Con-Chair-To move.

Although Cope has yet to return to AEW TV, FTR hasn’t escaped without any retribution.

The duo is set to face-off against the pair of Daniel Garcia and Nigel McGuinness at Double Or Nothing, but it seems likely that Cope will make a return to deliver some revenge soon.
