2025 is going to be the final in-ring year of WWE’s ‘Greatest of All-Time’ John Cena. That means a full 365 days of grand finales and goodbyes for Big Match John.
But what is there left to do for a man who has won 16 WWE World Championships? It turns out there are a few boxes unchecked and things to relive one more time before his time is up.
Let’s take a look at five potential stops on John Cena’s final WWE run.
5. The Passing Of The Torch: John Cena vs. Cody Rhodes

While Cody Rhodes and John Cena have met inside a WWE ring before, he never locked horns with this version of The American Nightmare.
The current face of the company, Rhodes is as close to WWE have had to John Cena since he left for Hollywood.
A match between Cena and Rhodes could be set up as a true passing of the torch moment, and could easily take top billing at one of WWE’s big PLEs in 2025.
If WWE want to go all the way they could even have Rhodes be Cena’s final ever opponent, giving closure to an incredible career and Cody one final stamp of approval.

4. One Final Match With CM Punk In Chicago

Back in 2011, the crowd reaction to this match at Money in The Bank in Chicago, IL was unbelievable and a true defining moment of the career’s of both John Cena and CM Punk.
Historically these two had a couple of the best matches in both men’s careers, but now that they’re both in WWE once again it seems wrong not to wind back the clock one final time.
Punk has been open in wanting one last match with Cena, and it’s hard to imagine Cena not wanting the same.
Another match that could easily headline a major PLE, this one needs to happen, finally closing the book on Punk and Cena’s rivalry for good.

3. WWE Intercontinental Championship Run

Sheamus is not the only active former World Champion who never has held the Intercontinental Championship, as workhorse championship has also alluded John Cena throughout his illustrious career.
So, why not go for the fairytale story here? Have Sheamus defeat Bron Breakker for the title and then have Cena defeat Sheamus for it.
Summing up this would give us a nice full-circle moment, as it was Cena who Sheamus defeated back at TLC 2009 to win his first WWE Championship.
Or, WWE could keep the title on Breakker and have a true old vs. new generation match. A rivalry with a star the calibre of Cena could potentially propel Breakker to the main event scene in 2025.

2. Thrice In A Lifetime

Probably John Cena’s biggest-ever matches came against The Rock at WrestleMania 28 and 29.
Before John Cena rides into the sunset, The People’s Champion and The Leader Of The Cenation might follow the old saying: ‘all good things come in threes’.
Right now they are both even at one win a piece, making for an easy to justify final encounter.
Doing the biggest match in WWE history yet again would be an incredible way to close this chapter of Cena’s career for good.

1. 17th World Championship Reign

For many years, Ric Flair’s record of 16 World Championship reigns remained untouched. That was until John Cena came around and matched it back at the 2017 Royal Rumble.
Cena’s incredible career could end right here and be absolutely flawless. However, even Ric Flair said if anyone should break his record, it should be John Cena.
WWE have began referring to Cena as the company’s ‘Greatest of All-Time’, and whether he wins a 17th title or not many fans will likely hold him in that high a regard.
However, a 17th world title would solidify it in the WWE history books, setting a new benchmark that may not ever be beaten.
