WWE star and former NXT UK Champion Tyler Bate has reflected on his SmackDown debut on the New Year’s Revolution special.
On the January 5 New Year’s Revolution edition of WWE SmackDown, NXT star and former NXT UK Champion Tyler Bate made his long awaited main roster debut. Bate was revealed as Butch’s tag team partner, and the pair defeated Pretty Deadly in tag team action.
On January 24, WWE on TNT Sports Twitter/X account shared a clip in which Tyler Bate was asked about his debut on WWE SmackDown and when he found out about his debut. He said:
“I found out in the same week that SmackDown was happening. I kind of heard rumblings for a while before.”
“It seemed like the internet knew before I did as well, which is pretty funny. But things just seemed to, it was like the stars aligned. Things seemed to just work out perfectly.”
“The Brawling Brutes, they broke up. Butch, he was kind of left on his own, didn’t really know what to do, at the perfect time when I was primed, ready for the main roster jump.”
“So it just made sense for me to be Butch’s tag team partner. So I was super excited, I was super nervous about making that jump to main roster.”
“But it’s been a lifetime’s work all coming together on that day,”
Following this British Strong Style reunion, Bate inspired Butch to find his true identity, which led to Butch returning to his “Pete Dunne” name on the January 19 episode of SmackDown.
When asked if the debut match was made more special because he was teaming with Butch and facing Pretty Deadly, Bate answered:
“Yeah, it couldn’t have been more ideal for me. It ticked all of my boxes. Getting to do it alongside one of my best mates just made it that much more cooler,”
Tyler Bate signed with WWE in 2017 and spent six years on the NXT UK and NXT brands. He is the first-ever NXT UK Champion and a former NXT UK and NXT Tag Team Champion.
