A top WWE star has revealed that her goal when beginning her wrestling training was not actually to become a pro wrestler.

Becky Lynch, as she’ll consistently remind everyone on WWE television, is among the company’s most decorated female wrestlers of all time – with herself, Sports Illustrated, Bleacher Report and several other outlets ranking her at the very top of that list.

While she has a WrestleMania main event, Royal Rumble win and seven world titles under her belt among many other accolades, Lynch has admitted that she did not start pursuing wrestling with the goal of doing it professionally at first.

Speaking on First We Feast’s Heat Eaters, Lynch said she initially began training to become “less of a delinquent”:

“I was just going so I would be less of a delinquent (laughs). To organize my life and get my act together and it did. I started doing better at school, I started training, it changed everything in my life, but it wasn’t for the goal of becoming a professional wrestler.

“I found a community that I loved and I found that if I worked hard at something I could get better at it and I was never good at anything. There’s something about wrestlers, maybe there’s a little screw loose, there is something that bonds us all together.

“You meet so many different people from different walks of life and we’re all like co-mingling and having a great time and having the banter, having the crack, having fun.”

Lynch then revealed that her mother was also not a fan of her pursuing wrestling growing up, with WWE’s presentation of women’s wrestling at the time not inspiring confidence:

“My mom didn’t like it, my dad was super supportive. She didn’t want me wrestling because in fairness there was nothing I could point at, at the time and say that’s what I want to do.

“When she was looking on TV and there would be bra and panties matches and mud wrestling matches and I’m like yeah I want to do something like that, but not that. No I don’t want to do that.”

Lynch is set to compete in the women’s WarGames match this Saturday at Survivor Series, teaming with the Kabuki Warriors, Nia Jax and Lash Legend against bitter rival AJ Lee, Charlotte Flair, Alexa Bliss, IYO SKY and Rhea Ripley.
