John Cena has shared a message in tribute of AJ Styles who retired at today’s WWE Royal Rumble premium live event.

Styles faced GUNTHER at today’s PLE in a match that held the stipulation of a GUNTHER win meaning retirement for Styles.

That’s exactly what happened as Styles passed out in a sleeper hold and GUNTHER scored the win.

This comes just over a month after GUNTHER also defeated Cena in his retirement match, although Cena tapped out to the sleeper rather than passing out like Styles.

Cena, who has spent all week posting photos of Styles on his Instagram, shared a message on social media after the match today.

Cena wrote:

Phenomenal is an understatement. Respect is earned and few are more worthy of universal industry wide respect than @AJStylesOrg.

Thank you AJ for all you’ve done for wrestling. From anyone who’s seen you and those lucky enough to share canvas with you

Styles was one of Cena’s last matches at WWE Crown Jewel in Perth, Australia during Cena’s retirement tour last year.

GUNTHER later competed in the men’s Royal Rumble match, finishing runner-up to the eventual winner Roman Reigns.
