Major update have emerged regarding the first challenger to Drew McIntyre and the Undisputed WWE Championship.
Last week on SmackDown, McIntyre won the title from Cody Rhodes in the steel cage final round of their Three Stages of Hell match after interference from Jacob Fatu.
It was also announced last week that the next WWE Title #1 contender following the conclusion of that match would be determined by the winner of a four-way at Saturday Night’s Main Event on January 24.
The winner at SNME would go on to challenge Rhodes or McIntyre – which we now know is McIntyre – at Royal Rumble on January 31.
The four participants at SNME would be the winners of four singles matches on tonight’s SmackDown – Randy Orton vs The Miz, Matt Cardona vs Trick Williams, Ilja Dragunov vs Sami Zayn, and Damian Priest vs Solo Sikoa.
Tonight, McIntyre opened the show but was interrupted by Orton who stated his intentions to come for the title, before Jacob Fatu came out to confront McIntyre, which led to Miz running in to attack Orton prior to their four-way qualifying match.
The match immediately followed and was won by Orton, so he’s in the SNME four-way.
Later in the show, Williams defeated Cardona to win their qualifier.
Priest defeated Sikoa in their match after the Wyatt Sicks came out to equalize the numbers of Sikoa’s MFTs.
In the WWE SmackDown main event, Zayn defeated Dragunov to earn the final spot in the four-way, so the #1 contender’s match is Zayn vs Orton vs Williams vs Priest.
