WWE WrestleMania 43 is taking place in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, a region that is currently subject to hostilities that could jeopardise plans.
Set for April 2027, WrestleMania 43 will make the first time that the key WWE PLE has taken place outside of North America.
With the region currently under a Level 3 – Reconsider travel advisory from the US State Department, WWE is still running Crown Jewel in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia on November 7, but attention has also turned to WrestleMania 43:
Riyadh wasn’t the original plan
Earlier this year, it was reported that Nashville was the originally planned host city for WrestleMania 43, although “the date didn’t work out“.
Riyadh became the host as part of the 300th anniversary of the founding of the First Saudi state, with the two-night PLE forming part of Riyadh Season, the annual entertainment, cultural and sporting events showcase.
A new venue
With tensions still high in Saudi Arabia, TKO executive Ari Emanuel has indicated that they are monitoring the situation in the region when it comes to delivering WWE and UFC shows.
With Triple H having shared posts on social media at The Sphere in Las Vegas, 83 Weeks co-host Conrad Thompson raised the possibility of the venue as a home for WrestleMania 43, with Eric Bischoff saying:
“It makes all the sense in the world, so much so that it’d be hard for me to believe that that’s not happening as we speak.
“It’s too easy. It’s just too easy and too smart, and it’s certainly not a less than because you’re going to get a whole different vibe. So, very freaking cool.”
Bischoff would go on to say he hopes that plans don’t have to change, particularly through the lens of “world peace”, with a location change likely only necessary where no other choice exists.
Las Vegas was the host for WrestleMania 41 & 42, with both shows taking place at Allegiant Stadium. WrestleMania 9 also emanated from Caesars Palace in 1993.
The dates don’t work
Very much like the Nashville swap, the reported dates for WrestleMania 43 don’t work when it comes to The Sphere.
With WrestleMania 43 reportedly set for April 10 & 11, 2027, Fightful has noted that John Mayer is performing on those dates, as well as towards the end of the month. In the run up to those dates, Oprah Winfrey is also there on April 2 – 4.
Plans can change
As recently as this week’s WWE Raw, a match was set for Crown Jewel, with the show still being advertised for Riyadh on November 7.
It is still possible that WWE will have to change plans for Crown Jewel, particularly if the US Government prohibits travel to Saudi Arabia for its citizens, despite there being just over a week to the PLE.
Looking ahead to April next year, there is a touch over five months until WrestleMania 43 and much can happen in that time on a global scale, let alone in Saudi Arabia. With this in mind, while WWE may be monitoring the situation in the region, plans are not likely to emerge until much closer to the time.
