WWE’s Bronson Reed has detailed the origins of his ‘Tribal Thief’ gimmick in the company and stealing Roman Reigns’ shoes.
The ‘Tribal Thief’ has become a key part of WWE Raw in recent weeks, including a victory he scored over Roman Reigns at WWE Crown Jewel in Perth last month.
Reed stole Roman Reigns’ shoes during their rivalry ahead of SummerSlam earlier this year, and Reed has now opened up on the origins of the character.
Speaking on No-Contest Wrestling, Reed referenced his upbringing in Adelaide, and how it played into him stealing Roman’s shoes on Raw.
He said:
“This is something I’ve always, I wanna make what I do in the ring appealing to as many people as possible, as broad as possible. I think I’m one of those wrestlers you could throw in the 80s, 90s, 2000s and I work in any generation.
“But I’m always thinking of those things that are outside of the box that people can relate to, and I remember I grew up with not a whole lot of money, and in a bit of a bad neighbourhood in Adelaide in South Australia, and I remember people getting their nice shoes stolen all the time. Or taken from them in school and stuff like that.
“I was like ‘if we can do something like that in WWE, people are gonna get it’. I thought I would have a little, just a little section of the fans that watch WWE on TV would understand what I’m doing, understand the reference to Deebo, or taking someone’s kicks.
“But it blew up, now I go to meet and greets and photo opportunities and there’s kids with shoes around their neck that have no clue about that sort of stuff, or street culture, or sneaker culture at all.
“It’s sort of cool that I became synonymous with stealing someone’s shoes, and not only that, it was Roman Reigns, top dog of the business. I feel like taking his shoes sort of humanises him. I said it’s sort of like making Superman Clark Kent.
“I was gonna keep ’em. I was walking around with the Shoela Fala, with both of them in Paris, but he cut the Shoela Fala apart and threw it into the crowd in Paris, so there’s some lucky fans in Paris that have them now.”

Continuing on, Reed noted that he has his eyes on more things in the company, noting that he plans on taking some other things from other WWE stars.
He added:
“I also have my eyes on some other people’s things in the company. I’m not gonna say what, but you know, I don’t think that’s the last thing you’re gonna see me take from someone, I’m definitely gonna be a repeat offender.”
