Big Change Announced For NJPW Wrestle Kingdom 17

New Japan Pro Wrestling held it’s G1 Climax final show today, which is one of the biggest event on the yearly calendar for the promotion.

The main event was the titular tournament final match itself, which saw Kazuchika Okada win his fourth G1 Climax, defeating Will Ospreay in the final.

The victory earns Okada a shot against the IWGP World Heavyweight Champion at NJPW’s biggest event of the year, Wrestle Kingdom, on January 4.

In recent years, NJPW has expanded Wrestle Kingdom to be a two or even three night event, a format which WWE would later adopt for WrestleMania in 2020.

However, this year, NJPW is reverting back to one single night, and one single Wrestle Kingdom 17 show, which will take place on January 4 in the Tokyo Dome, naturally.

NJPW also announced the return of New Year’s Dash on January 5, which was the annual post-Wrestle Kingdom show.
