AEW Young Bucks Plans Scrapped Due To Injury

Plans for a match featuring The Young Bucks were scrapped by AEW due to one of their opponents suffering an injury.

Matt & Nick Jackson have been a fundamental part of AEW since its inception, with The Young Bucks going on to be three-time World Tag Team Champions and previously the inaugural (and two-time) World Trios Champions with Kenny Omega.

During a recent Being The Elite Mailbag episode, The Young Bucks were asked if a planned match had ever fallen through, with an injured AEW star factoring into the answer.

Nick Jackson would reveal that a recent encounter would have seen The Young Bucks facing Omega and Kota Ibushi, saying:

“A proposed match that never happened? The Golden Lovers. It was actually supposed to happen pretty recently, but (Kota Ibushi) had a really bad leg break.

“We were supposed to do Kenny and Ibushi at, when was it? Not Revolution. Where the heck was it?

“It was a couple of months ago. You guys tell me. We ended up doing a six-man tag.”

Having been absent since October last year, Kota Ibushi recently shared an injury update, revealing that he was expected to be out of action for two years.

The Young Bucks were in six-man tag team action during the $1,000,000 Dollar match at Full Gear, teaming with Josh Alexander in a victory over Jurassic Express (Jack Perry & Luchasaurus) & Kenny Omega.

That November 22 AEW pay-per-view aside, The Elite would reunite on the Holiday Bash episode of AEW Dynamite on December 17, defeating The Don Callis Family (Hechicero, Kazuchika Okada & Konosuke Takeshita) in the $1,000,000 challenge.

Their last six-man tag team match at the time of writing was on the January 7 episode of Dynamite, teaming with Jack Perry in a victory over The Demand (Ricochet, Bishop Kaun & Toa Liona)

Matt Jackson would also reveal that there were scrapped plans for a match with The Outrunners, noting that it was a different match to the one that they had in the AEW World Tag Team Eliminator Tournament Quarter Final back in July of last year on Dynamite.
