Having recently returned to AEW, MJF has sent a message to John Cena following the WWE star’s in-ring retirement.
With MJF having been absent since September, he returned to AEW on this week’s Dynamite, cashing in his Casino Gauntlet contract and inserting himself in the World Championship match at the upcoming Worlds End pay-per-view.
Meanwhile, over in WWE, John Cena retired from his in-ring career with a loss to GUNTHER on the December 13 edition of Saturday Night’s Main Event.
In the wake of Cena’s final match, the broader wrestling world paid tribute to the record-breaking World Champion, with MJF now adding his thanks.
In a post shared on Twitter, MJF sent a simple message to Cena, reposting footage of an interview in which he praised the WWE star for being a “great human being”, posting:
“I’m late to the party.
“Thank you, Cena.”
Cena has previously spoken about his interaction with MJF at the Iron Claw movie premiere, praising the AEW star and revealing a hope that he would ‘play for the right team one day’.
AEW Worlds End takes place on December 27, with Samoa Joe defending the World Championship against Adam Page, Swerve Strickland and MJF.
Shortly after his return, MJF followed up his September “Idk anymore, man” post with a Tweet that suggested a new level of confidence for the AEW star.
I’m late to the party.
Thank you Cena. https://t.co/6pmJCHjeHO
