Will Ospreay’s next AEW World Championship challenger revealed: history repeating at Full Gear

Will Ospreay will face a familiar opponent at AEW Full Gear, with the World Championship on the line at the November 14 pay-per-view.

Having kicked off his first reign at All In London back in August, Will Ospreay most recently defended the AEW World Championship in the Clockwork Carnage match at WrestleDream.

With Full Gear just over two weeks away, a challenge to the champion was laid out on AEW Dynamite, with the match now confirmed:

The challenger comes forward

Having put away Jungle Jack Perry in a singles match that was quite the outing for both stars, it would be Kyle Fletcher who set his sights on the AEW World Championship.

Fans would be mistaken for thinking that Perry would have something to say about this, what with his own World Championship quest that has, thus far, seen a string of losses to former holders of the illustrious title, but Fletcher is clearly focused on the gold.

Held aloft by Mark Davis and Jake Doyle, Fletcher made his proclamation, stating:

“So, Ospreay, I dare you to put the AEW World Championship on the line because, as far as I’m concerned, I am the uncrowned AEW World Champion.

“Nobody in the company, nobody in the business, can touch me right now. I am the best. I am the best, and at Full Gear, I am going to prove it.”

Following last night’s Dynamite, the match would be made official, with a graphic shared on the AEW X account.

History repeating

Ospreay and Fletcher have history at AEW Full Gear, something that the Don Callis Family member is very much aware of, stating:

“If you all remember correctly, I have beaten Will Ospreay at Full Gear before. And, I’m going to do it again.”

That match took place back in 2024, with the former friends turned bitter rivals delivering a masterclass at the pay-per-view and the victory coming after a brainbuster on the top turnbuckle.

As outcomes go, McGuinness put it best when assessing Fletcher, declaring “the biggest win of his career”.

The shattered mirror image

Kyle Fletcher may see himself as nothing like Ospreay, having shaved his head the month before he would face The Aerial Assassin at Full Gear to accentuate their differences, but they continue to be mirror images of each other.

While Ospreay is carrying the AEW World Championship with grace, he has shown the same arrogance that currently consumes Fletcher with laser-focused awareness of where he should be on the journey he is on.

Since the friendship imploded, the mirror image may have been shattered, but there are still vestiges of it when it comes to intensity, purpose and potential, with Ospreay being an obvious target for a star that sees himself as the heir apparent to the king’s throne.
