WWE WrestleMania 42 Matches Canceled

On the road to WWE WrestleMania 42, there have been a lot of different changes when it comes to what the lineup will be.

At the time of this writing, the company has announced five official matches for the show, which will include four championships up for grabs.

Between injuries and different circumstances, the card for WrestleMania will be much different than originally planned, causing several bouts to be canceled or scrapped over the past few months.

Here are nine potential WWE WrestleMania 42 matches canceled.

9. Roman Reigns vs. Seth Rollins for the World Heavyweight Championship

Back at WWE WrestleMania 41, Seth Rollins defeated Roman Reigns and CM Punk thanks to Paul Heyman betraying his two former clients in the main event of night one.

Over the next few months, Reigns found himself feuding with Rollins, Heyman and his new stable, The Vision.

Reports circulated in the latter half of 2025 that Rollins was set to defend the World Heavyweight Championship against Reigns.

“The OTC: facing “The Visionary” would have been a major match on the Mania card if Rollins did not suffer a serious shoulder injury in October 2025 that forced him to relinquish the top prize on Monday Night Raw.

8. Cody Rhodes vs. Drew McIntyre for the Undisputed WWE Championship

Dating back to August 2025, Cody Rhodes and Drew McIntyre were embroiled in a rivalry with one another over the Undisputed WWE Championship.

This led to McIntyre defeating Rhodes in a Three Stages of Hell Match to win the WWE Title on the January 9 episode of Friday Night SmackDown.

After this win, it was reported that these two men would face one another one more time at the WrestleMania 42 premium live event.

However, Rhodes regained the Undisputed WWE Championship from McIntyre on the March 6 episode of SmackDown, which sets him up to face Randy Orton at Mania instead.

7. Cody Rhodes vs. Drew McIntyre vs. Jacob Fatu for the Undisputed WWE Championship

Speaking of their Three Stages of Hell, Drew McIntyre capturing the Undisputed WWE Championship from Cody Rhodes came in large part due to the return of Jacob Fatu, who got involved in this bout.

Ever since then, McIntyre, Rhodes and Fatu have been at each other’s throat in a three-way feud with one another.

This led to reports that all three men would vie for the Undisputed WWE Championship at WrestleMania 42.

With his interference to stop McIntyre from cheating in his WWE Title match against Rhodes on the March 6 SmackDown, it looks like Fatu will likely go one-on-one with McIntyre instead of this triple threat showdown.

Ahead of his Super Bowl Halftime performance, reports circulated that Grammy Award winner Bad Bunny was expected to return to WWE soon.

Following this news, it led to more increased discussion about a potential match with Bunny facing WWE star Logan Paul.

Paul even addressed the rumors and indicated that he had heard the same pitch being made, expressing his interest in this high profile contest at WrestleMania 42.

However, it looks like Paul will now be teaming with Austin Theory of The Vision to challenge The Usos for the World Tag Team Championships at Mania, while Bunny’s WWE return will have to wait a little while longer.

5. GUNTHER vs. Brock Lesnar

Over the past year, GUNTHER has defeated and retired Goldberg, John Cena and AJ Styles, garnering the reputation of “The Career Killer.”

This led to a lot of speculation in regards to what “The Ring General” will be doing at WrestleMania 42.

This led to some rumors circulating in regards to GUNTHER potentially squaring off with another legendary star in Brock Lesnar at “The Show of Shows.”

While this match has been discussed for the past several years, it does not look meant to be after Oba Femi accepted Lesnar’s WrestleMania challenge on the March 16 edition of Monday Night Raw.

4. Jade Cargill vs. Bianca Belair for the WWE Women’s Championship

When she first made her debut in WWE, Jade Cargill immediately formed an alliance with Bianca Belair.

This led to Cargill and Belair becoming tag team partners and becoming two-time WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions.

While Belair has been sidelined with a serious finger injury, Cargill has become the WWE Women’s Champion, which led to many fans believing a showdown could happen at WrestleMania 42.

However, “The E.S.T. of WWE” is still on the shelf recovering from her injury, while Cargill is set to defend her title against Rhea Ripley at “The Showcase of the Immortals.”

On the January 5 episode of WWE Raw, CM Punk defeated Bron Breakker to retain the World Heavyweight Championship.

This led to several different reports about Punk and Breakker potentially having a rematch at WrestleMania 42.

Following WWE Royal Rumble 2026, Breakker became sidelined with an emergency hernia surgery that has put him on the shelf.

Meanwhile, Punk is now set to defend the World Heavyweight Championship against Royal Rumble winner Roman Reigns at “The Show of Shows.”

2. Cody Rhodes vs. CM Punk for the Undisputed WWE Championship

When plans were originally discussed for WrestleMania 42, it seemed like the world title pictures were going to be much different.

While it looked like Roman Reigns would face Seth Rollins for the World Heavyweight Championship, it was reported that Cody Rhodes was discussed to face CM Punk for the Undisputed WWE Championship.

However, things have dramatically changed with both men holding the top prizes in WWE heading into “The Grandest Stage of Them All.”

Rhodes will defend the WWE Title against Randy Orton, while Punk will have a showdown with Reigns for the World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania 42.

1. Roman Reigns vs. Cody Rhodes for the Undisputed WWE Championship

Speaking of the two top stars, Roman Reigns and Cody Rhodes were heavily teased to face each other at WrestleMania 42.

Back at WWE Survivor Series 2025, Brock Lesnar and The Vision defeated CM Punk, Cody Rhodes, The Usos and Roman Reigns in the Men’s WarGames Match. After the bout, there was a tense confrontation with Reigns and Rhodes that set the groundwork for a rivalry rekindled.

This led to reports that Reigns and Rhodes were now set to face each other in their third WrestleMania main event in just over three years.

Plans were quickly changed and now both men will headline WrestleMania, but it will be Reigns facing Punk on one night and Rhodes squaring off Orton on the other.
