WWE World Heavyweight Champion Seth Rollins suffered a shoulder injury during his main event match against Cody Rhodes at Crown Jewel.
While the full extent of the injury is not yet known, it is believed that Rollins will require surgery.
With Rollins expected to be out of action for the foreseeable future, plans for his faction have already changed – as seen when Bron Breakker and Bronson Reed attacked him on the October 13 edition of Raw.
With the WWE World Heavyweight Title still in his possession, plans for the championship will also have to shift – here are five potential plans for the championship following his injury.
5. Seth Rollins Relinquishes The World Heavyweight Championship

With Seth Rollins’ injury, it appears the initial plan will be for him to vacate the WWE World Heavyweight Championship.
This announcement could be expected to take place on the October 20 edition of Raw.
It remains unclear, however, whether Rollins himself will appear on the show to formally relinquish the title and set up future bouts against his former Vision partners, Bron Breakker and Bronson Reed.
The question then becomes: how will WWE decide the next World Heavyweight Champion?

4. Multi-Person World Title Match At Saturday Night’s Main Event

The original plan for the WWE World Title was for CM Punk to challenge Seth Rollins at Saturday Night’s Main Event on November 1 – which is why Punk won the triple threat match on the October 13 edition of Raw against Jey Uso and LA Knight.
There are several ways WWE could choose to decide the now-vacant title, but the most likely scenario seems to be a multi-person match at Saturday Night’s Main Event.
The question is: who could join Punk in that bout?
Given their recent positions in the world title picture, we could once again see Jey Uso and LA Knight involved – along with one of Rollins’ former Vision faction members, perhaps Bronson Reed, fresh off his major win over Roman Reigns.

3. CM Punk Captures WWE World Heavyweight Title

It’s questionable whether the initial plans for Saturday Night’s Main Event had CM Punk defeating Seth Rollins for the WWE World Heavyweight Title.
That did appear to be the long-term direction, given that Rollins cashed in the Money in the Bank briefcase to steal the title Punk had just won at SummerSlam; however, that payoff may have been intended for a bigger event, such as next year’s Royal Rumble or WrestleMania.
Nevertheless, with plans now forced to change, the most likely outcome of a multi-person match at Saturday Night’s Main Event is CM Punk regaining the title.
The question then becomes: who will be his first challenger?

2. Bronson Reed Challenges CM Punk

CM Punk’s seemingly forever-feud with Seth Rollins may now actually be over, although it will likely continue indirectly – through Bron Breakker and Bronson Reed.
With Breakker’s coronation as champion unlikely to happen this early, we could see Bronson Reed step up as Punk’s first challenger for the WWE World Heavyweight Title at the Royal Rumble.
Reed has now established himself as a legitimate contender following his career-defining victory over Roman Reigns.
However, it’s highly unlikely he’ll be the one to dethrone Punk.

1. Bron Breakker Captures WWE World Heavyweight Title At WrestleMania

Paul Heyman has noted on multiple occasions – both in interviews and in on-screen, in-canon WWE storylines – that Bron Breakker will be a WrestleMania headliner for years to come.
It appears likely that the first of those years will occur at WrestleMania 42.
At the Royal Rumble, it seems increasingly probable that WWE’s new top heel will win the match.
This would then set the stage for the 27-year-old to headline WrestleMania – defeating CM Punk to capture the WWE World Heavyweight Championship.
