With Saturday Night’s Main Event fast approaching on December 13, John Cena bids farewell in a matter of weeks with a big show.
Announcing in advance that the other bouts on the card for the night are set to feature WWE main roster talent taking on NXT talent, it would seem that there are some exciting crossovers on the verge of happening.
Here are six potential matches for the WWE vs. NXT bouts at John Cena’s last show.
6. Charlie Dempsey vs. Randy Orton

While there are certainly a number of exciting talent for NXT to showcase, one that brings along a main roster ready origin story is Charlie Dempsey.
Real life son of William Regal, Dempsey’s in-ring work is reminiscent of his father but also stands alone as compelling and rooted in grappling and submission work.
With Randy Orton the perfect opponent for Charlie Dempsey’s technical and psychological style, it could be the ideal match-up.
Bringing together Orton’s own legacy as a multi-generational star and Dempsey’s current place in his rise in the industry, the match could end up being one for the ages.

5. Joe Hendry vs. Drew McIntyre

Since Joe Hendry has already faced off against one WWE legend in Randy Orton during his WrestleMania 41 debut, it could be that another massive challenge lies ahead.
With Joe Hendry now officially being referred to as an NXT star, he could be the perfect foil to the latest heel iteration of Drew McIntyre.
While McIntyre eviscerates the rest of the main roster with his Scottish savagery on the mic, Joe Hendry could certainly respond with a hilarious parody song for the perpetually complaining McIntyre.
Possibly still losing to McIntyre in terms of the match outcome, Joe Hendry could find himself in a re-match after being called-up to the main roster sooner rather than later.

4. Je’Von Evans vs. CM Punk

One potentially big match on the card might be one of NXT’s brightest up and coming stars taking on the WWE World Heavyweight Champion.
With Je’Von Evans having faced off against a few main roster opponents including Sheamus and GUNTHER as of late, he could be poised to appear at Saturday Night’s Main Event.
Definitely a star that would be an amazing juxtaposition in the ring for CM Punk, Evans could show off his fast offense and high flying skills, only to the in the end be bested by the Best in the World.
Since Evans seemingly has a bright future ahead of him, it would definitely be great to see him face-off against a major name that may not stick around for too many more years.

3. Trick Williams With Carmelo Hayes vs. Cody Rhodes

While Trick Williams remains in NXT for the minute, he certainly seems poised to launch on the main roster soon.
However, it could be the perfect time for him to face off against a major opponent in order to make his mark. Similarly to Carmelo Hayes who had his debut match on the main roster against Cody Rhodes, perhaps Trick Williams could follow suit.
Capturing the momentum that Hayes has gained through his highly touted Last Time is Now tournament appearance, he could prove to be a great foe at Saturday Night’s Main Event for Cody Rhodes as he lurks from the outside.
Able to blend together existing NXT and main roster storylines, the moment could end up bringing Trick Williams into the fold on SmackDown on a full-time basis.

2. Oba Femi vs. Bron Breakker

In what could mark a major debut for Oba Femi, he could certainly feature in one of the matches pitting NXT’s top stars against the main roster.
If he were to take on Bron Breakker, the duo could certainly have a big match that brought the crowd to their feet with hard hitting action.
Conversely if Oba Femi was meant to be immediately presented as a frightening force rather than have an evenly matched hoss fight, there could be other options as well.
Pitting Femi against Johnny Gargano, Nathan Frazer or Sami Zayn could prove his power and strength through their amazing ability to sell devastating moves.

1. Blake Monroe & Nikki Bella vs. Jordynne Grace & Liv Morgan

If there were to be a women’s match on the card, it may make the most sense to see two heels join up against two babyfaces.
With Blake Monroe being the perfect addition to the recently turned heel Nikki Bella, the duo could take on Monroe’s NXT rival Jordynne Grace and another main roster star.
While Liv Morgan could potentially be back in action, if she weren’t yet medically cleared for an in-ring return, Grace could definitely link up with Stephanie Vaquer to take on the dastardly divas.
Bringing a fun nod to a bygone era while also being able to showcase how far women in WWE have come over the past two decades — at least one women’s match would be ideal for the card.
