WWE Stars To Become Announcers

It is a time-honored tradition in professional wrestling for performers to transition into the role of announcer once their in-ring careers have wound down or ended entirely, and WWE has seen many examples of that.

Over the years, many memorable wrestlers have made the move to the commentary desk – icons like “The American Dream” Dusty Rhodes in WCW, Booker T in NXT and Nigel McGuinness in AEW – each bringing their in-ring legacy, insight, and mic skills to a new role behind the headset.

Whether stepping away due to injury or age, the key traits for a successful announcer remain the same: charisma, a sharp understanding of in-ring storytelling, and the ability to communicate the fast-moving action.

With that in mind, here are some current stars who could one day make the leap from the ring to the commentary table.

8. Sami Zayn

Witty, insightful, and articulate, Sami Zayn is one of WWE’s most effective and compelling storytellers.

His promo work is consistently excellent, and his ability to blend humor with raw emotion is virtually unparalleled within the company.

That same skillset would translate seamlessly into a commentary role, where he could provide both entertaining delivery and meaningful insight into in-ring action and psychology.

While fans will hope his in-ring career continues for years – and that he finally captures “the big one” – a spot in the commentary booth surely awaits whenever he’s ready.

7. The Miz

The Miz has now been an active WWE wrestler for over 20 years and, as a clear company lifer, could soon be ready for a new role.

His gradual transition from the ring seems inevitable, especially with his recent announcement as host of the American Gladiators reboot.

With his charisma and undeniable ability to effectively communicate with the WWE audience, The Miz would be a natural fit as an analyst at the commentary booth.

Now 44 and no longer as prominently featured in-ring, the time may be approaching for him to make that next move.

6. LA Knight

LA Knight’s rise to prominence in WWE took many by surprise – an outcome that longtime followers of his career would have once doubted.

One thing never in doubt, however, has been Knight’s charisma, commanding presence, and skill on the microphone.

Knight’s defining strength would translate perfectly into a commentary role.

While he’s currently riding a wave of in-ring success, a transition to the booth may not be imminent – but it’s a natural fit for the future.

5. Kevin Owens

Kevin Owens was forced to miss his scheduled WrestleMania match against Randy Orton this year due to a serious neck injury.

Owens has acknowledged that his future is uncertain at this point, and it’s unclear when – or even if – he’ll be back in the ring.

Much like his longtime friend and tag partner Sami Zayn, Owens combines deep pro wrestling knowledge with unmatched storytelling ability, razor-sharp wit, and commanding, natural charisma.

In a heartbreaking worst-case scenario where he’s unable to return to the ring, Owens would make for a highly engaging and credible addition to WWE’s commentary team.

4. Bayley

There remains a notable absence of a consistent female voice at the WWE announce desk.

One performer who would be perfect for the role is Bayley.

Few have her combination of infectious enthusiasm for the WWE product, compelling voice, and authoritative in-ring knowledge.

With injuries piling up in recent years, could we soon see Bayley begin a transition into a non-wrestling role – possibly behind the commentary table?

3. William Regal

William Regal on-screen return on WWE NXT

William Regal proved himself to be an incredibly effective announcer during his AEW run, often joining the commentary booth to call matches featuring the Blackpool Combat Club.

As an analyst, he was both insightful – expertly explaining the impact and purpose of specific moves – and consistently entertaining with his trademark dry wit.

Since returning to WWE, Regal has appeared only sporadically on NXT, but far more could be made of the legendary British star’s presence.

Still carrying significant name value, bringing Regal back to television full-time in a commentary role would be a win for both fans and the company.

2. Natalya

WWE star Natalya

In recent years, WWE has made necessary strides in presenting its female stars as equals to their male counterparts – but one area where it still lags is in featuring a consistent female voice at the commentary desk, something AEW also lacks.

AEW’s Renee Paquette made history during her WWE tenure by becoming the first woman to call an episode of Raw, though her time behind the desk was brief.

A current WWE star with the credentials to fill that void is Natalya, whose technical proficiency and long-standing in-ring experience would bring credibility and valuable insight – particularly as an expert voice on women’s wrestling.

While she remains motivated to compete, as seen with her recent noteworthy appearances on the independent scene, Natalya may eventually prove to be the ideal fit for this much-needed role.

1. The New Day

In recent weeks, the New Day have recently taken up guest commentary spots on Raw, while their current rivals, the War Raiders, compete in the ring.

Their presence was not out of the ordinary, as both Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods have stepped into the role multiple times over the years, consistently delivering quick-witted and insightful commentary.

Each man brings a unique voice and has proven themselves adept in the role.

Nevertheless, it seems unlikely there would be room for both men at the commentary desk – so the question is, which member of The New Day would win out?
