NXT Showdown

On Tuesday, October 7, WWE will present their latest special episode of NXT with Showdown where stars from the brand will do battle with TNA Wrestling talent.

Mere hours away from the show, there are several changes that could take place and alter how the evening turns out.

WWE NXT vs. TNA Showdown presents both companies with a great opportunity to shake things up with several adjustments ahead of and throughout the night.

Here are six potential changes to WWE NXT vs. TNA Showdown.

6. Blake Monroe gets revenge on Jordynne Grace

At WWE NXT No Mercy 2025, Jordynne Grace defeated Blake Monroe to win the Weaponized Steel Cage Match.

Then on the September 30 edition of WWE NXT, Grace expressed her desire to be part of Team TNA for the Women’s Traditional Survivor Series Elimination Match on the October 7 show.

However, Grace’s status on the WWE NXT roster and history in TNA made both sides not trust her enough to be on either team for the Showdown special.

With NXT GM Ava announcing that Grace will be the special guest referee for the Survivor Series Elimination Match on the show, Monroe could get some revenge by taking out “The Juggernaut” ahead of the bout and taking her place.

5. Josh Briggs vs. Matt Cardona added to the card

On the September 30 episode of WWE NXT, Myles Borne defeated Josh Briggs thanks to outside interference from TNA Wrestling’s Matt Cardona.

This was the second straight week that Cardona appeared on WWE NXT and received a big pop from the fans in attendance.

Considering the reaction that the former Zack Ryder has received the past few weeks, it would be silly for WWE NXT and TNA Wrestling not to have him part of the card for this Tuesday.

Adding Matt Cardona vs. Josh Briggs to the lineup would be a very intriguing bout to watch unfold and see who walks out with a victory on this important evening for both brands.

4. Oba Femi takes out TNA roster

WWE NXT star Oba Femi

At WWE NXT No Mercy 2025, Ricky Saints defeated Oba Femi to win the NXT Championship.

This marked only the second singles loss for Femi since making his WWE NXT debut and could be the end of his run with the brand.

However, recent reports have indicated that “The Ruler” could be sticking with NXT for a little longer than many had guessed.

Femi returning at WWE NXT vs. TNA Showdown should see him exuding his dominance by taking out everyone from TNA Wrestling in sight to send a message that he still rules NXT.

3. Tom Hannifan & Matt Rehwoldt joining commentary table

While Vic Joseph and Booker T are on the call every Tuesday for WWE NXT, the voices for TNA Wrestling that are recognizable every Thursday are Tom Hannifan and Matt Rehwoldt.

The TNA commentary duo have developed solid chemistry with one another stemming from their time together in WWE.

To make WWE NXT vs. TNA Showdown feel like a co-promotional event, both companies should be represented everywhere on the show, including commentary.

Having Hannifan and Rehwoldt show up to commentate during a match or two would allow this audience to hear them and potentially want to hear more from them on TNA IMPACT following Showdown.

On Sunday, October 12, The Hardys are scheduled to defend the TNA World Championship against The Dudleys in what has been dubbed “The Final Table Match” at TNA Bound For Glory 2025.

However, Matt and Jeff Hardy could walk into Bound For Glory as a double champion following WWE NXT vs. TNA Showdown on October 7.

Ahead of the special, Bubba Ray and D-Von Dudley announced that they will make an appearance to watch The Hardys’ Title vs. Title match against Dark State at the NXT special episode.

While the WWE Hall of Famers claim they are there to watch, their presence could be the deciding factor with The Dudleys costing The Hardys their TNA World Tag Team Titles against Dark State at WWE NXT vs. TNA Showdown.

1. GM’s choice match

WWE NXT GM Ava

Both NXT GM Ava and TNA Director of Authority Santino Marella have been heavily involved in the buildup to the WWE NXT vs. TNA Showdown event.

This co-promotional show should see more talent being featured than the stars who are currently scheduled for the four-match lineup.

Adding another match where the authority figures get to pick a representative from WWE NXT and TNA Wrestling individually would allow two other names to get the spotlight on this special event.

A GM’s choice match could see the likes of Indi Hartwell, Lash Legend and Fallon Henley being spotlighted at this WWE NXT vs. TNA Showdown special event in a significant way.
