Six Biggest Takeaways From WWE Money In The Bank 2020

This year’s Money In The Bank was given the slogan: ‘Climb The Corporate Ladder’ and this was exactly what was delivered last night. We saw food fights, free-falls, legends return and Mr. McMahon showing good hygiene.

McIntyre and Rollins had a fantastic fight, which wasn’t a surprise due to the talent in the ring! Furthermore, Wyatt and Strowman seem to be brewing more darkness into their next match.

Money In The Bank will go down, similarly to WrestleMania 36, as one of the most unusual takes for the event in recent memory. However, this will play a factor in its memorability. There were certainly some downers in the show, but there were also some great highlights with storylines being furthered and stars being made.

Let’s take a look at the priciest takeaways from Money In The Bank 2020:

6. Bobby Lashley Joining MVP’s Faction?

In usual WWE fashion, matches were added to the card last minute. These being Jeff Hardy vs Cesaro on the kickoff and R-Truth vs MVP.

Firstly, Hardy beat Cesaro in a match that was designed to showcase Hardy’s ability before he reaches the match with Sheamus. The Truth vs MVP match was an even more strange addition.

Truth hasn’t done anything of note since the 24/7 championship went around the waist of Rob Gronkowski. Post-match, Truth declared that he will find Rob Gronkowski to get his title back.

MVP supposedly having a PPV match in 2020 was even more bizarre as each time he fights, it seems like it may be his last. This was actually designed for Bobby Lashley to take MVP’s spotlight and he defeated R-Truth in a quick bout.

The biggest takeaway from this match is: will Lashley be joining MVP’s faction?

MVP, a few weeks ago, seemed to have been creating his own faction of random guys he sees potential in. There isn’t really a reason for his faction but it looks like it has already signed Shane Thorne and seven-foot-tall, Brendan Vink.

With Lashley looking to move forward from the bad smell his feud with Rusev left, this could be quite neat and deliver Lashley a mouthpiece, which proves more beneficial than without. I guess time will tell if Lashley truly is ‘platinum’.

5. The Fiend Will Be Seeking Vengeance For Wyatt

Braun Strowman defending his Universal Championship against Bray Wyatt didn’t happen in another cinematic match like some people predicted. Instead, we saw Funhouse Bray challenge ‘The Monster Among Men’ in a basic singles match.

This saw Wyatt try to survive and hit Strowman with his biggest weakness – running into things. Strowman bulldozed into the turnbuckle, ring-post, announcer’s table, you name it! Wyatt even managed to nail the champ with a Sister Abigail. However, nothing was managing to stop the strength of Braun.

Until the end. Wyatt was being cheered on by his puppets – who were enthusiastic and excited for Wyatt regaining his championship. Strowman then entered the ring wearing the black sheep mask, warped and confused. It looked like Strowman was returning to his Shepard.

It was not to be, however as Strowman stomped the mask, shattering any possible feelings between the two. Braun then power-slammed Bray for the win. In the closing moments of the segment, Wyatt looked weakened and hurt by what had transpired. Leaning in the corner, flashes of the Fiend were seen, emphasizing what’s next for their feud.

The next PPV, Backlash, looks to be the place where the Fiend will seek vengeance and redemption for Funhouse Bray.

4. Drew McIntyre vs Seth Rollins Was Match Of The Night

Despite the wackiness of the Money In The Bank ladder matches, Drew McIntyre vs Seth Rollins was definitely match of the night from an in-ring perspective.

Before discussing the match, let’s praise the new entrance for Seth Rollins. ‘Burn It Down’ was a bit outdated for his Messiah gimmick, so this one does appear to treat him like a worthy leader. It does sound a bit too much like Bayley’s generic tune, though.

Anyways, the match was great as a match with McIntyre and Rollins should be. They both hit their big moves, McIntyre even kicked out of a cover after being stomped! Then, McIntyre managed to countdown for the Claymore and retain his WWE Championship.

The only thing I would change would be to have Rollins roll McIntyre into the ring after throwing himself at him a few times. A tactical leader, such as Rollins, should know that you can’t win the title with a count-out.

Albeit this, the post-match angle afterward saw Rollins accept McIntyre’s handshake. Perhaps I’m looking too much into this but I can see their rivalry continuing to Backlash. Maybe he tries to bring Drew into his clan but McIntyre being the lone warrior that he is, headbutts him, and the feud continues.

3. Corbin Throws Mysterio And Black Off The Roof

Has anyone checked in on Rey Mysterio and Aleister Black after “being thrown off the roof” of Titan Towers? The WWE HQ is literally seven stories high, that is approximately fifteen Rey Mysterio’s!

Obviously, they are still alive and well because Aleister Black managed to tweet this:

Was this spot just done for comical reasons or is there a bigger story behind it? Will Black & Mysterio return with undead, spooky gimmicks? Will they have darker personas than before? This could lead to a faction being created with AJ Styles called “The Wrestling Dead”.

Realistically, this spot was probably only done to be part of the mayhem known as this year’s Money In The Bank. However, it does beg for many theories before we see both men on tonight’s RAW.

2. Asuka Becomes Ms. Money In The Bank

Both Money In The Bank matches emanated from WWE Headquarters and happened at the same time. This was designed so the cross-cutting nature would prevent the matches from becoming stale and Edge vs. Orton levels of wall bouncing.

This was complete insanity, as it should have been for a match in this style! Asuka started the contest off by hiding for her entrance in the lobby and leaping down in an ambush of fury. She would then use the elevator to try and reach the top. Surprisingly, the other women managed to catch-up to her in a bonkers game of cat and mouse.

Dana Brooke ended up picking up a fake briefcase and had a horrible encounter with Stephanie McMahon – which didn’t even look filmed in the same State, let alone the same room. She then got a Carmella poster shoved onto her head by the former MITB winner, seemingly causing tension between the duo, who have been teaming with each other since WrestleMania.

The three opponents that reached the top of the roof were Jax, Asuka, and Evans. After a lackluster fight in the ring, Asuka climbed up the ladder to then be intimidated by a different match competitor, King Corbin? Oddly, Asuka sent Corbin crashing down the ladder to win the contract.

With Vince having high views on Asuka, it seems she will go from the ‘Empress of Tomorrow’ to Today pretty soon.

1. Otis Becomes Mr Money In The Bank

The men’s side of this match through the Corporate enterprises of WWE was also exciting and dramatic.

Let’s give a big shoutout to AJ Styles. The man can go with the best of them and still offer light-hearted humour. The Phenomenal One was instantly trapped beneath a heavy barbell by Otis and thereafter, he got flashbacks to his Boneyard match with The Undertaker. The rest of the competition decided to torture him by shutting him in the room where the Deadman rests.

He also walked into Mr. McMahon’s office while battling Daniel Bryan. Due to not wanting to be fired, they quickly exited and continued the brawl somewhere else. This did lead to a moment where Vince used hand sanitizer – relating to the current uncertain times that the world is suffering. If Vince can keep good hygiene, then you can too!

Due to Corbin having bad luck from shattering the gym’s mirror earlier in the match, Elias returned smashing his guitar into Corbin to send him plummeting from the top of the ladder. It looked like Styles was going to win. However, the briefcase fell too and into the hands of Otis.

Otis is this year’s Mr. Money In The Bank. There are many speculations that he will challenge for the tag team titles, alongside his Heavy Machinery partner, Tucker. Or perhaps he will lose a match with the contract on the line in Mr. Kennedy fashion.

Whatever happens, Otis has had quite the 2020 thus far, winning the girl and the briefcase.
