Oba Femi has had an incredible main roster rookie year, with the former NXT Champion presented as WWE’s next big thing since his Royal Rumble debut in January.
Following his impressive showing in the 30-man match, Femi went on to face Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania 42, defeating The Beast in under five minutes.
The Ruler even looked strong in his first main roster defeat, with Lesnar having to jump Femi before the opening bell and hit him with seven F5’s – the same amount he used to defeat Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 34 – to secure the victory at Clash In Italy.
Oba Femi bounced back quickly, winning the King of the Ring tournament, defeating Jey Uso in the final at Night of Champions.
The Nigerian star gave up his guaranteed world title shot to instead face Brock Lesnar in a Hell in a Cell match at SummerSlam. Femi pinned Lesnar in what would end up being The Beast’s final ever match.
Oba Femi is currently feuding with The Vision, however a World Heavyweight Championship clash with Roman Reigns seems inevitable.
With Femi immediately issuing a challenge to Reigns following the latter’s title win at WrestleMania 42, it initially didn’t seem like we’d have to wait long to see two of WWE’s top heavyweights lock horns.
With the King of the Ring winner forfeiting his title shot, it seems WWE is waiting for a much bigger occasion to bring Femi and Reigns together.
So, when will Oba Femi challenge for Roman Reigns’ World Heavyweight Championship, and when he does, will he be victorious?
There are several occasions where we could see Oba Femi win the World Heavyweight Title, including…
On WWE Raw
A title match of this caliber happening on Raw seems unlikely, but we can’t rule it out.
Reigns’ most recent World Heavyweight Championship defense took place on the September 14 Raw episode in Mexico City, with the OTC defeating #1 contender’s tournament winner Penta.
If WWE didn’t want this match to happen at SummerSlam however, it will likely be given a bigger platform, rather than taking place on TV.
Survivor Series
Roman Reigns has been advertised for Survivor Series since August, with rumors swirling about his role on the show.
While Reigns has been a WarGames mainstay in recent years, competing in the 2022, 2024 and 2025 WarGames matches at Survivor Series, we could see Reigns defend his World Heavyweight Title on the show instead, if Reigns is able to get past LA Knight at Money in the Bank.
Future title matches are often set up inside the WarGames cage, so we could see Oba Femi and the World Heavyweight Champion come face to face for the first time in this multi-man match.
Royal Rumble
Oba Femi’s first match as an official main roster star was the 2026 Royal Rumble match, during which he eliminated Bron Breakker, Solo Sikoa, Rey Mysterio, Rusev and Matt Cardona, and lasted for 39 minutes.
It would be pretty poetic if Oba Femi challenged for, and won, his first world title at Royal Rumble 2027, one year on from his emphatic debut.
While Royal Rumble could end with Oba Femi holding the World Heavyweight Championship, many have predicted that The Ruler will actually win the Rumble at next year’s event.
WrestleMania 43
WWE President Nick Khan recently confirmed that the company is “across creative” for WrestleMania 43 in April 2027, indicating that plans for the event are penciled in, barring any injuries.
Per Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer, it is believed that the current plan for the show’s main event is Roman Reigns vs Oba Femi.
With WWE deciding that SummerSlam wasn’t the best occasion to host this match, it would make sense for Reigns vs Femi to take place on the Grandest Stage of them All.
After WrestleMania
Even if Oba Femi does challenge for Roman Reigns’ gold at WrestleMania 43, there is no guarantee that he walks out with his hand raised.
With everyone likely expecting Femi to reach the top of the mountain in Saudi Arabia in April, WWE could save his coronation for a future event.
While it is currently unclear when Oba Femi will win his first world title, with the rookie year he has had on the main roster, it seems to be a case of “when” rather than “if”.
