On May 2, the wrestling world was left absolutely shocked by the announcement that The New Day were leaving WWE after a mutual departure from the company.
Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods immediately shot up the list of potential free agents to sign for All Elite Wrestling.
Considering how high profile their signing would be, AEW will have to plan for a special debut for The New Day if they are to be viewed as top stars from the minute they step in the promotion.
Here are seven potential New Day AEW debut plans.
7. Arrive As Soon As They Become Free Agents
The New Day requested and were granted their release, which means they can go wherever they like at the end of their 90-day clause.
Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods, now known as Kofi and Austin Creed, will be highly sought after free agents for any promotion in the world.
With their free agency day being August 2, All Elite Wrestling would be wise to immediately sign them as soon as they are available.
The New Day immediately arriving as free agents would be a smart move that brings them in the mix as the company builds towards the AEW All In London 2026 event at Wembley Stadium.
6. Double Debut With The Motor City Machine Guns
While The New Day’s WWE exit was announced on May 2, there were other major departures the week prior.
During a mass talent cut, WWE released The Motor City Machine Guns after only two years with the promotion.
Chris Sabin and Alex Shelley had been underutilized during their time in WWE and always felt like a better fit for All Elite Wrestling.
Having both The New Day and The Motor City Machine Guns debut back-to-back would be like a tag team equivalent to the unforgettable AEW arrivals for Bryan Danielson and Adam Cole at All Out 2021.
5. Rekindling Rivalry With FTR
During their time in WWE, one of FTR’s most consistent rivals was The New Day.
The two teams battled and traded the SmackDown Tag Team Championship in 2019 among other bouts against one another.
As soon as The New Day news broke, Cash Wheeler of FTR took to social media to tease their arrival in AEW.
Wanting to rekindle their rivalry with no chains on what they can do in the ring, The New Day could step up to FTR, looking to take their spot as one of the biggest and best tag teams in AEW right now.
4. Attack The Young Bucks To Kickstart A Feud
The New Day becoming free agents has finally opened the door for a dream match that is years in the making.
During their individual rises in the mid-to-late 2010s, The New Day and The Elite would tease having matches against one another.
There is also a famous tweet of The Young Bucks saying they will face The New Day one day and everyone will rejoice.
Now that they could make their way to All Elite Wrestling, the company would be wise to not waste any time and immediately have Kofi and Austin Creed attack Matt and Nick Jackson to kickstart this historic feud right from the start.
3. Challenge Adam Copeland & Christian Cage For The AEW World Tag Team Championship
At AEW Double Or Nothing 2026, Adam Copeland and Christian Cage defeated FTR in an I Quit match to win the AEW World Tag Team Championship.
Cage and Cope winning their first tag team title in 25 years felt like a huge moment for themselves and their legacy as a duo.
To further cement this reign as something fans will not forget, Cage and Cope should face other legendary pairings during https://wrestletalk.com/news/aew-swerve-strickland-new-day-wwe-departure/this run.
The New Day coming to AEW could set up a dream feud between two of the most iconic duos of the past three decades.

It feels like an inevitable scenario for The New Day to sign with AEW and go on to face The Elite in some combination.
After years of teases of a match with Kenny Omega and The Young Bucks, Kofi and Austin Creed will need a third man for this trios encounter.
Over the past few years, Swerve Strickland has become the real Elite hunter with major wins over every member of the group still signed to AEW.
The New Day aligning with Swerve would make for a dangerous trio that could finally destroy The Elite and remove them from the company moving forward.
1. Debut At AEW All In London 2026
AEW All In London 2026 will be one of the biggest pro wrestling shows of the year in front of raucous fans in Wembley Stadium.
