At NJPW Wrestling Dontaku 2026 Night Two, Mistico and El Desperado defeated The Ichiban Sweet Boys to become the new IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Champions.
However, this duo were not able to enter this year’s Super Junior Tag League 2026 because Desperado suffered a serious spinal canal stenosis and a hernia injury.
Due to this injury, Mistico was forced to relinquish the titles at NJPW Power Struggle 2026, but Unbound Co. suggested the CMLL star find a partner to face them and The Ichiban Sweet Boys to determine the new champions at Wrestle Kingdom 21.
Here are four potential options to be Mistico’s mystery tag team partner at NJPW Wrestle Kingdom 21.
Mascara Dorada
When it was suggested that Mistico find a mystery tag team partner, most fans thought of one person.
Over in CMLL, Mistico has found a great deal of success with Mascara Dorada by his side in El Sky Team.
This success has led to the duo heading to the United States and winning the Ring of Honor World Tag Team Championships.
Mistico and Dorada could now do the same in Japan and capture the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Championships in the Tokyo Dome on January 4.
Neon
What some fans might not know El Sky Team doesn’t just consist of Mistico and Mascara Dorada though.
In CMLL, Dorada and Mistico are also joined by the dazzling high-flyer known as Neon.
With his awe inspiring high flying exploits, Neon is someone who could capture the imagination of the NJPW fans in a major way.
Bringing Neon will give Mistico an edge due to his opponents’ lack of knowledge on what he can offer at NJPW Wrestle Kingdom 21.
Volador Jr.
Early in Mistico‘s career, his number-one ally in CMLL was none other than Volador Jr.
Known as “The Bash Brothers,” Mistico and Volador showed off some stunning chemistry with one another.
Over the past several years, Mistico and Volador have become enemies and rivalries in Mexico with several significant battles against one another.
Putting their differences aside, Mistico and Volador might be able to bring the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Titles home to CMLL following NJPW Wrestle Kingdom 21 on January 4.
Speedball Mike Bailey
In 2026, Mistico became a dual contracted star with CMLL and All Elite Wrestling after several appearances.
This led to Mistico teaming with JetSpeed to defeat The Don Callis Family’s Kyle Fletcher, Kazuchika Okada and Mark Davis to win the AEW World Trios Championships at Revolution 2026.
This partnership with Speedball Mike Bailey has not only been seen in AEW, but also over in Mexico for CMLL.
Bringing it to another promotion, Mistico and Speedball together could be enough to walk out of NJPW Wrestle Kingdom 21 in the Tokyo Dome as the new IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Champions.
