With Tony Khan’s recent purchase of Ring of Honor the future of the company is still in the air after Supercard of Honor 2022.
Khan has mentioned that there will be an intermingling of talent in both ROH and AEW.
How can AEW utilize the ROH championships to add some stakes to AEW programming?
It’s all in the sweet history and legacy of the titles…
Some Direction Was Set At Supercard Of Honor
The April 2022 event featured high profile matches and insight into the future.
Jonathan Gresham, Samoa Joe and FTR have already defended their world titles on AEW programming setting the stage for what this partnership can be.
In turn, having the belts defended on Dynamite, Rampage and other important events is an easy way to add some prestige to the titles.
Even further, a tournament for one of the championships on a show like Dark Elevation or Dark would be great way to utilize ALL the talent present in both ROH and AEW.
Ring Of Honor Royalty Are Already Signed To AEW
Jonathan Gresham, in a high profile main event against Jay Lethal or a dream match against Bryan Danielson for the World Championship would be a great business for all involved.
Wheeler Yuta utilizing the Pure Championship to further his way into the Blackpool Combat Club with Pure Championship matches would boost the stakes even on taped shows.
Furthermore featuring Bobby Cruise, Ian Riccaboni and the like for ring announcements enhances the presentation.
With AEW’s roster of Hall of Famers and former champions like the aforementioned Danielson, Samoa Joe and CM Punk, the star power is there.
These men can be added in to bring light to ROH and to many AEW fans who might not be aware of the rich history.
Women’s Championship Great For Both Divisions
For the very deep women’s division, the ROH Women’s Championship can play a part in women’s wrestlers becoming contenders for the TBS and AEW Women’s Championships.
Mercedes Martinez, as a veteran defending against contenders on AEW programming, will help the title and with all the young women they have trying to improve.
Adding the championship to the Owen Hart tournament could be an additional element.
Martinez being positioned next to Jade Cargill and Thunder Rosa with the ROH Women’s Championship will help with visibility.
It’s On Tony Khan To Cross Promote To Full Ability
If AEW stresses the importance of these championships it will lead more fans to the ROH library in the future.
Having Khan purchase and juggle both companies as booker is still a very new deal.
A television deal for ROH could see the same deal utilized with AEW championships.
With that being said any ROH promotion will benefit as ROH is still a very valuable product.
Continuing cross promotion is a must for success in the future for Ring Of Honor.
