John Cena made an appearance on the November 2 edition of SmackDown to share more information on his upcoming John Cena Classic project.

Following months of speculation, the 17-time WWE world champion announced that the John Cena Classic will take place on December 14, on an edition of Raw set to emanate from Disney World in Orlando.

Also revealing the John Cena Classic Championship belt, and that the inaugural champion will be chosen by a fan-vote on Club WWE, Cena announced that he will appear on NXT, additional episodes of Raw, and at Survivor Series to invite talent to the event.

With the retired star now confirmed for the November 28 show, there has been some speculation about plans for John Cena in Houston, Texas.

Here are three potential directions for John Cena’s appearance at Survivor Series.

John Cena Classic lineup reveal

Prior to his Raw appearance, Corey Brennan of Fightful reported that John Cena had been pencilled in for Survivor Series, with the kayfabe reason for his appearance being to scout talent for the John Cena Classic.

With Cena pretty much confirming this on Raw, Survivor Series will almost definitely feature some major announcements for the upcoming event.

With Cena set to appear at several events ahead of Survivor Series, it has been heavily speculated that November 28 will serve as the culmination for these announcement.

Survivor Series will be the final premium live event ahead of the December 14 event, so it would make a lot of sense for WWE to confirm the lineup and format for the event on this date.

Randy Orton segment

Following John Cena showing off his new title belt on Raw, the 17-time world champion crossed paths with Randy Orton on the ramp, ahead of Orton’s segment with Cody Rhodes.

With Cena and Orton’s storied history, many have predicted that the retired star will soon invite The Viper to be part of the John Cena Classic lineup.

Following several feuds with John Cena, and his position on the card as a main event veteran, Orton would be able to serve as a measuring stick in the tournament, to see if the younger prospects will sink or swim.

Randy Orton would be a high-profile addition to the event, so it would make a lot of sense for Cena to extend an invitation to him at the upcoming major premium live event.

Cody Rhodes segment

Only one star has been confirmed for the John Cena Classic at the time of writing, with John Cena announcing Cody Rhodes as the first invitee.

While John Cena praised Rhodes for doing a great job carrying the company, and noting that the #1 invitee sets the tone, it will be interesting to see how the 17-time world champion would react if Rhodes’ character change storyline continues.

With Cody Rhodes preparing to face Randy Orton in a Last Man Standing match at Crown Jewel, we could see a completely different version of the American Nightmare at Survivor Series, with Rhodes teasing unleashing his more violent side.

If Rhodes does become more aggressive or turns heel following Crown Jewel, it’d be interesting to see how he interacts with John Cena, given previous endorsements.
